Shadowrun Online, the turn-based MMO successfully funded on Kickstarter, is coming to Steam Early Access on March 31. A prequel to the first Shadowrun Online campaign, Lockdown (also an upcoming tabletop RPG book), this introductory offering will focus on the core mechanics of combat.

“We are very excited (and a little frightened) to finally show this first glimpse of the game to the world,” said Wagner. “We don’t want to pile on features unless we have nailed the core gameplay elements, so we created this small and polished section for our players to enjoy.”

The initial release of Shadowrun Online through Early Access will provide players with a PvP map, two characters, four missions, and basic skills. This limited, combat-focused approach will provide valuable feedback from Kickstarter backers and the Steam community and help guide development.

Moving forward, incremental updates (approximately monthly) will allow Cliffhanger Productions to respond to community requests and to provide players with new content and features, including character creation, skill progression, and new missions.

“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for us and we have invested everything (and then some) into development. Although we originally planned to begin our release schedule last year, it became apparent that our original code-base was too restricting, and we weren’t willing to make compromises due to code limitations. Fusion Gems
Fusion Gems are a brand new kind of Gem, much more powerful than any other. Fusion Gems can be socketed into gear to give two stat bonuses! With one Gem giving two bonuses instead of one, players can now gain greater bonuses from the same amount of slots.

New heroes
Including Valkyrie, a female warrior who welds a razor sharp sword and mounts a powerful flying horse (likely stolen from Hercules), Astral Hunter, who uses his astral bow to cause a great deal of pain to enemies, specifically targeting their sensitive areas. And Arcane Spirit, a support mage will have your enemies crippled in no time.

Finally, the epic House of Cards requires an introduction. In the House of Cards players summon the Card Master and obtain Card Cases from him. Once players have collected specific sets of cards they can exchange them for amazing rewards.

Wargaming is happy to announce that this weekend they’ll be opening up the game to players who don’t have Xbox Live Gold account status. Previously, access for those players was limited to a 7-day timed trial.

Starting March 28th and running until March 30th, those players will be able to get back into the action, even if they have already exhausted their allotted demo time.

This new access period will give all players the chance to experience the culmination of the Map Madness campaign, which tasked players around the world with hitting a tank destruction quote. After tens of millions of kills, the players succeeded in hitting their goal, with the last map, Prokhorovka, slated to be released Friday morning.

Square Enix, Inc. today released “Through the Maelstrom,” also known as Patch 2.2, for the popular FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn online game.
