DC Universe Online Reports 120k New Players

John Smedley, SOE’s President, announced on Twitter this morning that over 120,000 new players have signed up for their Hero VS Villian MMORPG, DC Universe Online on the PC since the game transitioned to free-to-play Tuesday evening. In the same tweet, he announced that the number of concurrent users logged into the game has increased 400% in that same time, and that they’re planning to launch a massive TV and online ad campaign later this month. He did not mention any numbers for PS3 users.

Though don’t get too excited if you want to hop on the band wagon. DC Universe’s servers weren’t tested for handling such a spike and OnRPG’s writers among many others have been going crazy trying to get on to test out the F2P model as the game is undergoing constant downtime. Hopefully this is a sign that SOE is upgrading the servers to handle the new bandwidth.

Look forward to OnRPG’s report on the F2P model and the far more populated world of DC Universe Online later this month!
