Interview With: Clyde Bielss CEO MindSurge Entertainment
1. How long did it take to develop Control Monger?
The current State of Control Monger only took a little over 3 1/2 Months to
develop. My partner David Blasdell did all the game code and we did not use
anyone else’s Engine. All the world design and game concepts where done by me
and we had 2 other artists (midien and devx) do the character models and
textures. We had 2 sound guys, one did all the game sound (Brandon E.B. Ward)
and the other did the title track (Wilbert Roget II). We wanted to give
ourselves a challenge and limited the amount of time we would spend on the Free
Version of the game. We plan to spend at lest 2 times as much time on the Full
version of the game.
2. What sets this game apart from other MMOFPS games?
The game as it is now is not a MMOFPS, but only a Online Shooter. The Free
Version of the game will not have a ranking system, Chat room, Clan system or
anything else you would think a MMOFPS would have. You can think of the Free
Version as a training version, It will have most of the features the MMOFPS
version will have so you can learn to play but with none of the extra goodies
the MMOFPS version will have. The expanded MMOFPS version of the game, that we
will finish several months after the Free Version, will be a full MMOFPS and
have everything I mentioned above and more.
One of the big things that set us apart is the fact all the characters are Bots
and not People. We figured there are way to many MMORPG's and MMOFPS games that
use humans as the base of the game. With the bots we can do many different
things we would not be able to do with humans. For example snipers can see
through walls and spies can go invisible, The bots can track enemies through
walls with there gun sites and don’t take fall damage, and many other different
things like that.
The next big thing that sets us apart is the support of custom-made maps. We
have
released a full set of tools and will be posting tutorials on how to make your
own game maps as soon as the first version is released. The world of Control
Monger is only as big as make it!
We will also be releasing the dedicated server software for both the free
version the Full version so players will be able to run there own game worlds.
There servers will answer back to our main data base and keep track of Rank and
so on.
3.Will Control Monger be a free-to-play game?
YES, there will always be a 100% free to download and play version. Free
version
members will be able to play right along side the pay members but will not get
all the extras and be limited to free version maps, but they will still be able
to create there own maps, so really the free version is only has big as the
players make it. The MMOFPS full version will not have monthly fees and will
only be a one-time charge for the client. We plan to keep the Client as cheep
as possible and we promise it will be a lot less then other MMOFPS/MMORPG
games.
4. Will there be any expansions for Control Monger in the future?
The MMOFPS version of the game will be the first expansion we add (witch will
enhance the free version of the game to a full MMO). We will continue to
Expanded and Support both the Free Version of the game and the Full version of
the game. We have many Exciting plans for the future and it will only get
better and better. A lot of the ideas the expansions will have are based on
what our players want, we are making this game for them and there thoughts
count.
5. Has MindSurge Entertainment and NetCharger made any other games besides
Control Monger?
Yes, this will be our second MMO title. We are currently working on FreeWorld
Online as well (www.freeworldonline.com) which should be completed next year.
FreeWorld is our Fantasy MMORPG and is now in Open Alpha.
6. Control Monger doesn't require you to make characters. None of the bots
level up or buy weapons or upgrades. Would that feature ever be added?
YES, these are all feature that would be added to the full version of the game.
As I said above the current state of the game is not a MMOFPS.
7. Do you plan to add more bots or remove some bots from Control Monger?
3 new bots are planed for the Full version of the game, I’m not sure if this
will
be added in an expansion or the original release. It is not 100% set in stone
on which bots will be added. We are looking to the testers for suggestions on
what they would like to see in the full version.
8. How many people played the Control Monger closed BETA test?
we only let a little over 300 people into the closed Beta of the Free Version.
It went rather well and we where able to fix many problems. We will be letting
many more into the Closed Beta of the final version of the game.
9. When will this game be released?
The Free Version of the game will go live the 6th of Aug. and will be featured
on the front cover CD of Computer Games Magazine. We have also teamed up with
Xfire (www.xfire.com) to host the download and send an invite to all 2 million+
of there members to play our game. Everyone else is welcome to download and
play the game as well and the software will be hosted on many major download
sites. All our official server will be hosted by www.hypernia.net and will be
offered as free to play servers.
10. What else would you like our members to know?
I would just like to let everyone know that our testers ideas mean a lot to us.
This is the time to become active in the community and make your ideas known.
We will not start the MMOFPS version of Control Monger for about a month and
after we start adding new features it is harder to remove them or add new
ideas. So, if you want to play an active roll in the development of an MMOFPS
then come by our forum and start posting
