Wildstar Online Announced by Carbine Studios

Carbine Studios, in conjuction with publisher NCSoft, are gearing up to produce a breath taking SciFi cartoony action game called Wildstar Online! Though few features have been announced about this title yet, gamers right now are getting their first sneak peak at it at the Gamescom Convention in Germany!

Not only does this game look like it has great potential (Gamescom Trailer and Screenshots) but it breaks free from the standard fantasy MMO mould in a big way. OnRPG will be going out of our way to get the full scoop on this game at the end of the month during the PAX convention but in the meantime we can mull over this letter from Executive Producer Jeremy Gaffney:

“It's exciting times at Carbine.

We've been putting in some late nights and weekends at the studio - finalizing features, getting feedback, tuning - getting the details right.

We've been working on our game in stealth mode for a long while - waiting for the day when we could finally start showing our friends, fans and competitors what all the secrecy was about.

Hell, at this point our neighbors in the office building probably suspect we work for some particularly scruffy branch of the CIA.

Who are we? What are we all about?

First and foremost: we're a company of gamers. Gamers as developers, with most of us having put some hard time developing titles you may recognize. Lots of MMOs, lots of online games.

We also play the heck out of games we didn't make. We tell our significant others we play for "research." Sometimes, it's even true.

But mostly, it's because we love this stuff.

We have a number of ideas we've developed over time about what we think is important in gaming - we think it's about letting players play how they want, when they want, and with whom they want.

We're gamers that want MORE out of online gaming, and we're all ready for the Next Big MMO. Don't get us wrong - we're not dissing existing games. We can't; like we said, most of us have helped make them.

But we think we've learned enough to make some dramatic steps forward. We have developed some new ways of making online games; games that can adapt to you instead of the other way 'round.

I know, I know - you may have heard it all before. And we're not here to feed you a bunch of hype - that stuff kills us as much as it kills you.

With that in mind, we'll just say that Carbine Studios will be attending this year's gamescom in Cologne, Germany, quickly followed by PAX Prime in Seattle, Washington.

Our entire team has been making a game we enjoy ourselves - and we're pretty excited to tell you about it as well.”
