Robots have been part of our lives for generations. From the old school mechs that we love to watch on the TV or seeing them kick ass on the big screen. We've always been fascinated with them especially when we get to control these monsters and bring down the house with them.
X-Blaster, a browser-based action MMO from BBgames may just be the answer to some mech madness that we all have deep inside.
About the Game
You play as a pilot of a high-tech robot and your goal is to become the best among the rest. You'll be fighting against other pilots in a randomly generated arena. Using the arsenal in your disposal you have to eliminate the opposing force while getting the crates that either provides you with credits, ammunition or if you're lucky enough weapons.
You control your mech through the keyboard so there's no mouse clicking to worry about as you play the game. Also, the arena where you fight in has its own brand of automated defense. This usually takes a form of a large turret that is usually situated in the middle of the map.
X-Blaster lets you choose from three different mech types eachwith theirown strengths and weaknesses. The general classes are as follows: hunter, defender and the ranger class. Another thing about the three types is that each has its own special and bonus weapon, the special weapon serves as the type's ace in the hole while the bonus weapon serves as an effective counter measure for a specific type of mech.
The Hunter class is the offensive mech among the three. It has the highest attack rating and that its special weapon is the seeking missile, while its bonus weapon is the Plasma gun, which gives hunters a 30% damage increase against Defenders.
Meanwhile, the Defender class, as the name suggests is more defense oriented. They have the highest defensive rating and their special weapon is the indestructible shield which makes them invincible for a certain amount of time. Its bonus weapon is the Impulse weapon which gives the Defender a 30% damage increase against Rangers.
Lastly, Rangers are the fastest among the three types and that it's specialty is close quarters combat. Its special weapon is the Nitro boost which allows the mech to have a temporary speed boost while its bonus weapon is the Ion cannon which gives the Rangers a 30% damage increase against Hunters.
Battles in X-Blaster happen in a boxed arena that with walls as cover, you can decide to make your own duel or go against other online pilots in leagues that have been set up.
If you create your own duel you can determine the number of players, the time and the match type. The match type is either an open duel, where players can generally see the duel or a private duel, where you can set the parameters of who can see or join your duel.
There is also the Clan league where you can join in with your clan to prove who's strongest. Winners of the league would not only be recognized by the whole X-Blaster community the rewards are very enticing as well.
However, if you got tired of doing pvp X-Blaster also provides you an alternative way to earn credits and skills which can be used to further boost your mech. Missions are available also where you can go at it and may eventually level up. The thing is, X-Blaster's missions are level-bound meaning there are quests that will only be available on certain levels.
X-Blaster has one unique feature that may make the game more interesting. It's the co-player system that the people behind X-Blaster have come up.
The co-player system lets three other players use your account and apparently enables you to play with each other. All you need to do is to provide add the password your "co-players" would use and you're all set.
All in all X-Blaster is a game where the core gameplay is well thought of. The controls are simple, and anyone can just register and start fighting immediately. The learning curve is quite easy and anyone should be able to get the basics down within seconds of playing.
Winning in X-Blaster is not just dictated by the pilot who has the biggest guns. It's also important that you get know what mech you are using, how the weapons work and most importantly learn how to use the terrain to your advantage.
A good tip for those who are playing X-Blaster is this. The turret can be your friend just as long as you know how to use it well.
However even if the game is fun the longevity factor of it needs to be taken into consideration, fighting against other pilots and doing missions is all you can do in the game. Of course for a browser game this should be expected.
Browser games don't have the capability of having the same depth of gameplay as most MMORPGs do. That is why it is possible that you may not play this game for long.
Another thing that needs considering is the lag issues the game has. There are instances where when your mech doesn't go with the controls and sometimes gets stuck for no reason at all. This can be troublesome especially when you are already in the critical stage of the fight where a small mistake can either be victory or defeat.
The thing is even with the game has faults like this, as long as you have the reason to play the game you would really spend time and maybe have the reason to stay on playing the game. Of course BBgames needs to fix the lag issue because that's the only thing that is currently killing the fun factor for the game.
- The body hierarchy balances the game
- The arena is good enough for battles
- It's fun seeing robots blow up
- Lag issues kill the fun factor of the game
- There's nothing much else you can do besides fighting and doing missions
- You are only limited to three general bodies.
