The most immersive and "realistic" game I have played has got to be "Horizons: Empire of Istaria" (Now called "Istaria: Chronicles of the Gifted"). The world was basically barren with few npc's and almost everything was in ruins. Quests were few and far in between so the content was almost solely done by the players. Players made all weapons and armor, created their own economy, and plus you could rebuild ruined towns/bridges/etc you came across if you possessed the needed skills. You bought property and could build your house, guild hall, castle, etc or design it and leave money there to pay other people for their abilities and materials to build it for you. The community of the game has been the single greatest gaming experience for me in over 10 years of playing MMORPG's. I actually never met a single rude person in the game in almost a year of playing it.
Too bad the owners did their damndest to kill the game and it's changed hands many times to unsavory people. I hear now it's being reworked decently and moving along thanks to one of the original developers.

Personally... I can think of several games.
1. World of Warcraft Yes, I may hate the game personally--didn't stop me from playing it, though. The RP servers, when you get a decent group going, are just... And then the random RPers who are scattered around in non-RP and the RP servers... Man, it helped a lot to immerse me into the game. 2. Mabinogi I know, several people are going to go: "WHA?" But, hear me out. Mab has a TON of skills available--I haven't even found all of them, yet--and they can each be leveled up to a certain level... 'Sides that, and the tons of player-run shops, I'd say... Search around. There ARE roleplayers ingame--I've seen a handful on Mari, and even have had some enjoyable moments dungeoncrawling with a group. However, I wouldn't try this one first; finding the RPers isn't easy, at least for me, it isn't. 3. Neverwinter Nights There are still hundreds of roleplaying servers whose purpose is to immerse the player into the world, and to make them feel as though they are a part of the world; that every action they do has a purpose. (Oh, also, nice try trying to promote your own server, korn.) That's the majority that I'm able to think of, at this specific moment in time. If I think of any others, I'll give ya a heads-up, and update my post. |
