Canada or the states? Prices are bit different.

Why not search on google, there ought to be a price converter.

Some stores don't ship to Canada(namely Newegg, and they're a lot cheaper than tigerdirect and ncix). Anyway, it's going to be hard with only $500 to work with. The 8800GT and 9800GT are about $130 now, so thats a plus . Get a weaker dual core and overclock it, and you will be fine.

Right now, I think he lives in the U.S., but right now I'm to lazy to compile him a list from newegg. Go ahead if you want to get the same items from my list.

After giving it a bit of thought, a half-decent computer is definetly possible for $500, especially if you re-use parts. Look for:

- 9600GT or 8/9800gt. This will run you about $90-$150 depending on where you order it from.

- A cheap dual core, overclocking it would definetly be a plus. E2180(2.0ghz pentium dual core) is about $70 now and can reach 3ghz, a cheap aftermarket cooler for about $20 will help.(Arctic cooling freezer 7 pro!)

-2gb ram should be fine for xp, 3 at least for vista. Make sure its ddr2. Cheap brand should be fine just make sure its the same type so you can run it in dual channel.

- Cheap motherboard

- Reuse everything else xD

good luck

Oh, well good luck getting a good pc for $500 already built for you.(nearly impossible) but it will be better than what you got already.
