Well, I used to go to TechTV forums when it was TechTV and not that G4 bullshit. (Because shows like Hurl! and Cheaters are really necessary. :\)
The only place I've been to recently that was somewhat active was http://www.techguy.org/

www.hardforum.com is my personal favorite, and they don't take post count. Techspot is also good, and overclock.net is a decent one although there isn't as many users as hardforum. [H] ftw!

Just today i read a review on Toms Hardware guide, that majorly pissed me off because it was obviously designed to given an impression of a product that this product just doesn't live up to. That kind of sweet talking appears a lot with people who try to place their own choice in the best light possible and usually the more, the more expensive a product is. Benchmarks are only trustworthy, if you take them from a page, that runs standardized reviews, that keep comparable over a long time and product range. Individual benches are usually polished up by a lot and even THG for example fails at times by quite a lot (using an old driver version that is known in the community to be bugged, getting you to get freeze-ups and about 20% slower speed, with frequent than other versions for example.) For that reason i would take a long walk around when trying to research something, keep myself out of tech forums, because they aren't really better, just full of jargon and never post anything, if you don't have the hardware around you can use to compare. |
