Technically, we were fighting the USSR directly. They were providing funding and equipment (weapons, medical supplies, tanks, you name it) for the VC, and eventually admitted to having deployed several thousand troops down there. We just weren't fighting them on their land or with their soldiers.

LOL Manic don't tell that to the government back then because they sure as hell would say you are wrong. Yes we did support funds to countries like Afghanistan to fight off the Russians but then again you could say we where not fighting them directly but we where funding the fighters directly. But I don't know about the troops part I have not heard any of that.

It's been old news since the 90s. After the dissolution of the USSR they admitted to it.
