Admittedly, it took only five days to get that far (first-time GOer). But that still doesn't change the fact that I pretty much wasted my time, ya?
And I've actually seen games offer transfers between two different servers before. I used to play Fairyland Online for a while back in the P2P days (I played on the USA server), and the Malaysia server was shutting down. The MY providers made an agreement with the European FL providers to transfer player accounts over to the EU server.
So I wouldn't say that character transfers between servers would be impossible, just not very likely.
