What does being banned actually mean?
I only ask this because I see banned people logged on all the time. Nearly every time I take a look down at the who's logged on part of the first page, I see at least one red name. So, are they only there to prove a point with some strange title? Or can they not read anything on the site? Or, can they just not post in response to anything? This question kept me up for a good 3 hours last night..... But not really...

You become banned because you get infractions for improper posts, such as spamming, flamming, crude pictures or comments etc. After one gets 3 infractions they get a temporary ban which means they generally cannot view the website (if cookies are turned on) or they cannot post. It all depends on the website.
However I do not know how VB works, they might display recently banned or banned people attempting to log in on the bottom who's logged on screen.

even when banned, connecting to the forum will still open a session with vBulletin, the "currently active members" part lists the users who have an active session open with vbulletin.
so they are technically still logged in but in a sort of locked down version of the forums. |
