Oxetairn I'm looking for a team to help shape my MMORPG idea. And Eventually get the game up and going. ~The world of Oxetairn will have two different worlds. The main world is driven on economics (combined with politics and social behaviour). The environments in this world will be realistic, but also with a fantasy flavour. This means that there will be lots of fantasy elements in the world, including the characters, but it will not be an extremely happy setting, nor a dark setting. The right balance needs to be found to create a realistic environment that on the other hand amazes the player by the look and feel it has. The secondary world in Oxetairn is a fighting world. This world will be much darker and must give the player an unpleasant feeling (he must be frightened in some way). For this reason, the environments in the secondary world will be less realistic than those of the main world. Environments and characters look evil and dark. We will create one main social world and a parallel battle world. Parallel also means that the 2 maps of the worlds will match with each other. This was decided during the meeting. Here is some concept art by one of our artists: http://i692.photobucket.com/albums/v...airn/scene.jpg http://i692.photobucket.com/albums/v...sertcopy-1.jpg http://i692.photobucket.com/albums/v...rn/fogcopy.jpg http://i692.photobucket.com/albums/v...valleycopy.jpg ~We came up with 5 races/archetypes: o Humans – All-round o Maaragroth (Lizardfolk) – Fighting o Goblins – Engineering o Fast race (looks will be based on main character of Oddworld: Stranger’s wrath) – Speed o Big guy (no name yet) – Worker Note: The classification (like Fighting, Engineering, Speed, Worker) will not be a very hard one. It will account for initial skills of the characters and probably a special skill each race will have. The skills can however change during the game according to how the player will play the game. Special skills will not change, so this will make the races unique. Players can learn a lot of professions, however, only the professions that they really work on, will increase in skill points. Naturally, skill points will decrease over time for all professions, if the player does not work on them. The same accounts for player attributes, like speed and strength. If a player stands still, but performs heavy work (like mining), speed will decrease and strength will increase. Increase (and decrease) in skill points should not take weeks of gameplay, but should be rather easy. Otherwise, players will go into grinding mode to reach a higher skill level for a certain profession or attribute. Features: ~ A Player run economy (All gear in the game will be created by players) ~ Minimal Grind (Hopefully None at all) ~ Challenging ~ Smart AI for NPCs ~ An in depth crafting system ~ Skill based Sandbox ~ Players will be able to own parts of land I would not like to put too much info in this thread, because we would not like people to steal our ideas. Our ideas right now are quite different from most MMO's. The game will be a skill based sandbox. Target customer Age: 16+ Gender: Mainly male, but female possible Location: All around the world, but must be able to understand English language Education: All possible, but must be able to understand English language Income: No limitation Interested in: MMORPGs, but looking for a more sophisticated and more challenging gameplay than just grinding and fighting to gain a higher experience level. Also customers interested in strategy games are a target group. Technology: C++ Whatever you use for modelling(for now) Team Structure: Danny v Tol - Project management / Programmer MadAce - Graphics Artist Sven H - Environment Artist/Art Director Nicole B - Concept Artist Michiel M - Lead Writer Jean G(me) - Sound Engineer / Project Mangement Why create this game? Over the last few years computers have become more powerful and networks have become faster. Massive multiplayer online games have become very popular. On the other hand games want to be more and more non-linear and unpredictable, where player actions influence the flow of the game. This is quite difficult to do for single player games, because player input should be interpreted by the computer and based on that change the flow of the game. With MMO games, the player community could react on each other, and players can define the flow of the game, not the computer. Up till now this idea is not widely implemented in MMO games. Many players still fight against computer opponents, player characters often have pre-defined skills, and game designers do still implement storylines to keep the players interested. In Oxetairn, the game and the game world will be defined by how its players act, just like the real world is designed by its inhabitants. You may not be paid for this project if Oxetairn is a success then you shall get paid eveny from what is left of the money. ~ The people for the team must be good at what they do. ~ If you apply you must be active. ~ Be kind while working with the rest of the team. Details and Applications C++ programmers will be well-informed of the details planned for Oxetairn so they can program them accordingly. It is essential that you can easily program in C++ using correct conventions at all times, unless directed not to. Graphics designers must be capable of creating medieval-based textures, banners, themes, etc to a high standard. You must be able to accept constructive criticism, and improve on work submitted on request. Modellers are expected to be able to create high standard models of characters, items, buildings, etc. You need to be independent and show progress regularly. The People I Am Looking For... 4 C++ Programmers(2 People For The Server,2 People For The Client) 2 World Editors 1 Modeler 1 Graphic Artist (I am also a graphic artist) Please fill out this application: Desired Position: E-mail Address: Country: Age: Occupation: Can you speak fluent english: Known programming languages: How long have you been programming: How would you describe your skill level compared to other programmers: Proof of programming skill: Additional comments/questions: __________________________________________________ _______ Please PM or Email me at ablossomc@yahoo.com your application if you are interested. Also i shall get a site up and running soon. P.S. We have a website now. Also we are working on ASG and TDD right now. Last edited by Tercitus; 07-07-2009 at 04:08 PM. |

I've edited the first post a bit. Also most of the game features and the rest of the game info is not mentioned because I would like the people just working on the game to know all the stuff.
The way this MMORPG will be extremely different from other MMORPG's. |

We now have a writer. But a second or even a third writer would be nice. We still need another 3d artist. We also have a programmer but a second or third programmer would be great too. Once we get another 3d artist, at least, we can start working on our game.

We have finished up almost all parts of the GDD except for a few minor spots. We are now splitting into groups, i.e art team, programing team, etc. Each team is working on their own documentation, Programming Team: TDD, Art Team: ASG, etc. We have 10 active members currently, and we would like more people. Programmers, artists, and writers are what we are looking for. So please send me an application if your interested.

Alright. You can have your own opinion, I haven't updated this post lately. But I'll add the features we plan to have. There's a lot more information about Oxetairn in the GDD created and my first post doesn't describe much at all except for a vague idea of the game. We are still looking for new members on the team. Our top need at the moment is programmers.
Features: ~ A Player run economy ~ Minimal Grind ~ Challenging ~ Smart AI for NPCs ~ An in depth crafting system ~ Skill based Sandbox |

From a developers point of view, writing is much simpler then lighting up your dream. Sure the features sound great in writing but when the time comes to actually code the thing the step that it takes will become very shaky and you may fall off and start from square one. I do give you credit for planning a game but you need a lot more information out there and it's not the number of developers you have, it's the quality and potential. Now I suggest you fix your topic with more information regarding the teams goal and achievements throughout the development course and give us more of a personal insight into this game. Also you mentioned that you now have a website which I highly recommend you update the first post with a link. Pictures would be great too with all the work in progress material attached to the first post since it will give us some eye-candy to stare at. You need to impress in order to find people who are willing to help with lots of talent and potential.(or ward out a couple of stacks of cash)
