Hey I've made an account and am downloading the game atm but it says under client download I need a "key activation" or something, does this mean without it I cant login and play the game or what?

It's still in closed beta. You need to wait for them to activate your account or alternatively, you can try to ask someone who's already in, for a friend invite.
