The new melee has been taking place, the game price has been dropped down to $9.99 on official site and STEAM. Demo accounts has NO timer anymore, so it's basically free to play! Yes, the game has been hell' lot of better, totally re-done melee system, new maps, and lots of new features and more to come!

What is Savage 2?
Savage 2: A Tortured Soul is the sequel to the often-ignored and rarely-noticed action-strategy game Savage: The Battle for Newerth. It takes the best of the FPS, RTS, and RPG genres and blends them seamlessly into an extremely addictive and complex experience. Anyone who's seen either game in action knows that each match is full of possibilities for epic moments and amazing displays of skill and strategy. Savage 2 improves on the original concept by balancing out key game play elements such as melee and ranged combat, making each character class unique, expanding the quantity and viability of the support roles, and overall creating a more cohesive experience.

We'd like to thank community member Stanz for his significant contribution to the new Community & Clan Panel released in the last patch, as well as a few other interface improvements.

Fixes:
- Fixed clan, buddy, and spectator list in the game lobby
- Fixed an issue affecting free accounts where the "Upgrade Account" button in the in-game F10 menu was covering the quit button at certain resolutions
- Tutorial and Practice modes should no longer broadcast the players' local server to the game list
- Fixed pet AI, they should now use the new melee system correctly
- Fixed an issue with the Community & Clan Panel that could occasionally cause a crash
- Various fixes to the Community & Clan Panel, courtesy of Stanz
- Fixed the player count in the game browser, courtesy of Stanz. Previously it was only counting players who were playing on official servers

Additions:
- Enabled Commander portion of the Tutorial

Balance:

Jump Attack:
- Jump Attack, while still fully blockable, will not apply the melee debuff to the Jump Attacker when successfully blocked.

Hellbourne:
- Increased the total block meter by 25 for all three Hellbourne units

Hunter:
- Attack animations of the first and second attack have been altered slightly such that the impact time doesn't occur quite as quickly. Overall attack speed remains the same.

Predator:
- Lowered melee damage by 10%
- Attack animations of the first and second attack have been altered slightly such that the impact time doesn't occur quite as quickly. Overall attack speed remains the same.

Revenant:
- Increased damage of scorch, the Revenant's ranged attack, by 15%
- Increased health from 600 to 650
- Increased mana regeneration from 3 per second to 5 per second

Maps:
- Smoothed out some areas on Eden
- Reverted to an older version of the duel arena maps. They should no longer crash.

Modding/Custom servers:
- We've added a new cvar, "svr_useWorldMaxPlayers" which is defaulted to true. This can be set to false to use svr_maxClients rather than what is specified in the map files.

Since when is it F2P? Last time I checked it was still P2P or a One time fee.

Straight from the forums: Savage 2 is now free to play. The only "limitations" to a Standard Account is:

No Stats or Replay Access
4 Inventory Slots (instead of 6)
Hellbourne Limitations

We no longer have demo accounts. We'll make announcements when we're pleased with where 1.7.x is probably next week.
