It's like Pokemon, you know. When new pokemons came in, the old ones left because they weren't interesting anymore (butterfree, pidgeot, etc). The same thing's happening to Naruto.

to make it more dramatic and more realistic

I personally think its kinda cool that they are killing people off, makes the story more interesting , and also makes me more excited to see how naruto will handle such a tough enemy
