Are you trying to solve for y, or show that left side = right side? 8y - 3(4 - 2y) = 6(y + 1) 8y - (12 - 6y) = 6y + 6 <- expand into brackets 8y - 12 + 6y = 6y + 6 14y - 12 = 6y + 6 14y - 6y = 6 + 12 <- bring like terms togethor 8y = 18 8y/8 = 18/8 y = 2.25 Doesn't seem like the answer you were looking for.
