Default Some newbie questions.

Hi. Im thinking of getting Guild Wars soon but there are still a few things I don't understand and I would like answered before I get the game. Please read and answer the following questions, not just for myself but other gamers that would like to get Guild Wars soon. Thx

1. How do you unlock skills?
2. There is a story to the game right? If so how long does it take to beat the game?
3. After you beat the game can you still do quests or is it all PvP?
4. If you don't get into a guild...are you screwed?
5. Do most people do quests and grinding in parties or do they solo?
6. Is the game really team-based and tactical (as in you have to work with your team [teamwork])?
7. Is it really true that if you leave the town alone, you wont see anybody else killing stuff and such?
8. Can 2 people be logged on 1 account at the same time, though in different characters?
9. Since this is a B2P game and not P2P, is there still a cash shop or something where you pay real money to get unique items? (Like in Silkroad Online, or Gunbound/Rakion)
10. Are there pets in the game?
11. The highest level is 20 because the game is based on skills and strategy right? So does it mean that that a group of players at level 1 are able to PvP a group of players at level 20 and win?

(BTW: Question number 8 is not so that i buy the game and let 4 different people [4 different characters] play for free, but was because a friend and I were gonna split the price half-half and share the account with 2 characters each. Thx again )

Also please post some newbie questions you can think of to help others as well. Thx.

1. Trainers, quests.
2. Of course theres a story, and it depends on how much you play.
3. You can still do quests and stuff, also PvP.
4. No, your not screwed.
5. Most quests are done in parties.
6. Very team based.
7. All the maps are instanced, only you and your party can go in them. You dont see anyone else.
8. No, i do not believe thats possible.
9. Nope.
10. Rangers and necromancers get pets, not sure about anyone else.
11. A level 1 wouldnt have as good items and spells as a 20, so they'd lose.

1. Skills are unlocked by obtaining them on any RP character (either through quests, skill capturing, or purchasing with gold), or by using faction won through PvP to purchase them.

2. Yes, there is a story. How long it takes depends on how quickly you rush through the game. You can take two days or two months, it's up to you.

3. RP characters can still redo missions, earn gold, and do anything after completely beating the game that they could before beating it.

4. You aren't screwed, but a guild does make it easier to find a group, since you can just call guildmates to help you out rather than pick up random people who might not be anywhere near as good.

5. There is very little grind. Quests can be done with henchmen (AI controlled players with pre-set skills/attributes), but many still prefer to do quests or 'explore' in groups. You'll rarely find groups that want to go out purely to go get exp, since those people are usually lower level than everyone else around them and they'd rather pay the higher level people to power level them (less people in the group increases exp)

6. Yes. By the time you reach Lv20, there are still missions to do where monsters still get progressively stronger. The missions get harder, whereas you don't get stronger. It becomes important to have some sort of organization or strategy or at least some skill to get through those missions.

7. Yes. Not having random people outside in explorable areas removes things that made explorable areas in other games detestable... PKers, kill stealers, looters, spawn camping, advertisers who whore the shout channel...

8. No.

9. No. There are no need for uber purchasable items, because items play a very small part in the power of your character. Items such as 200% exp boosts can be purchased for in-game gold.

10. Rangers have pets, but they aren't for display or dress-up or to show off (except for the Black Widow, which is just a show-off because it takes a fair amount of effort to get). Pets provide extra damage (though not much) and help Rangers tank damage (though not much). As mentioned, Necromancers can raise minions from the dead. Rangers and Ritualists can cast rituals to summon Spirits which support allies or cripple enemies.

Mini-pets are available, but are costly and rare because the only ways to get one are to open your character's birthday present (which you get after the character's been around an entire year), buy it off someone else, or buy the Factions collector's edition (You get a free mini-pet, but only one). Unlike regular Ranger pets, all Mini-pets do is follow you around and look nice.

11. In the most extreme cases, a group of Lv1s can beat a group of Lv20s. Similarly, most Lv20s can beat Lv24+ monsters. It depends on the skill set-up of the players and monsters... if all Hydras do is spam Fire Magic, then using Elemental Resistance and Mantra of Fire make it possible for someone very low level to kill a Hydra. Warriors who focus purely on damage can get wailed on by a groups that can simply blind the warriors, or kill them before they can even get close.

Course this doesn't come up very much, since most players reach Lv20 in a short time (very short compared to grinders like FFXI or WoW).

Default New questions

Hi there. I got some new questions that I want to ask you all. Thx for reading and answering :

1. Is the game newbie friendly?
2. How many people play the game? Is there lots of lag because there are so many people?
3. As a noob when you first start the game, do you get into parties often? (As a level 1)
4. When you make a PvP character and you start at level 20, do you start with the pro level 20 armor, weapons, and skills?

Thx.

P.S: Please think of some questions whether you know the answer or not just to help newbies or people who want to get the game. Thx Looks like a great game

1. I think the game is newbie friendly. Factions is pretty simple, follow your primary quest or mission. And it's pretty easy to level up on newbie island. Starting out in Prophecies is a little harder and takes longer to level up when your a newcomer. The best advice for a newcomer to prophecies is to follow the storyline, do all your quests and missions in order, and take sufficient time in presearing so your better equiped for post.

2. Wow....lots of people that play. Not too much for lag problems, that depends more on your own connection and making sure your pc is clean, but I never have a problem with it.

3. When you start off in prophecies, groups are a max of two players. Once you hit post searing, as you get farther into the game, the size of your group party increases. And yes, there are always groups of other newcomers that will welcome you to there group. As long as your level is acceptable for that area of play. When you start in prophecies, your party size is larger, and maxes out at 12 in elite faction missions. And when you can't find a group, there are always henchman (npc's) that you can add to your party. Most missions and quests in the game are easily done with henchies.

4. Yes you get max armor when you make a pvp character..but...your gonna want upgrades to your armor and weps. These items are unlocked during game by collecting balthazar factions (these are awarded for victory in pvp battles) or by identifying items that won during regular pve game play. Skills also have to be unlocked during regular game play. You can unlock skills with balthazar factions, but, that means they are only available for use by a pvp character. Also, when you make a pve character, and skills you have learned or boughten, are unlocked for future use by any pve character.

1. Tutorial tips show you how to play the game, and tutorial quests show you the mechanics of the game. Even the PvP features a tutorial which walks you through and lets you fight in each of the possible 4v4 PvP types. 8v8 PvP and 12v12 PvP has no tutorial though, the only way to get experienced with one is to participate or spectate.

2. Lots. Some towns will be so crowded that it'll push your computer, but there isn't any actual internet-based lag. Just computer slowdown.

3. Parties start off with a maximum size of 2... and there are only two quests that'll require having a party. Most people play alone so that they can move at their own pace as they learn. As you progress through the game, the maximum party size will increase, eventually reaching 8.

4. PvP characters start off at Lv20, with the full 200/200 attribute points, maximum armor levels (for their class), and maximum-damage weapons. But, they are limited to skills available from templates (which generally suck) or skills that have been unlocked in RP play. They also have no weapon modifications (which make up for alot of that weapon's power) available for their weapons, or any runes (which raise attribute levels without using attribute points, and they also make it possible to raise attributes past 12 to a maximum of 16). Those must also be unlocked by getting them in RP or buy buying them with faction (which is much more common)

Weapons of this quality are considered rare and very expensive in the RP world, unless you want to use green items. Green items are dropped by certain bosses and possess the best weapon modifications and best stats, making it possible for RP characters to PvP (RP characters can spend extra gold on sets of armor that have the same armor levels but simply look better or unique, seeing this armor in PvP means that that character is RP instead of PvP and comes from someone who has alot of gold to spend).

Maximum party size is 12, when your in factions elite mission, eg. Urgoz Warren
