Default Overclocking question.

Would I be able to overclock my processor? What exactly is a quad processor and is it better than a dual?

I'm curious because I that can you run it says I can run Assassin's creed at max but I get undesirable frame rate to the point where the voices aren't in sync with the animations.

Also, is it safe? How would I go about this?

I would like some good opinions/walkthroughs. I don't trust myself googling this and trying it without a guiding hand.

Edit: Wow, I totally missed the Tech section. Darn "Free MMORPG" section bookmark.

i tried learning more about overclocking some time ago but im to lame to learn for it and i think its too risky to just do it =p so im just leaving it.

good luck if your gonna try though. i saw on a tv program once its best to do it with small steps. if the pc doesnt overheat u can try oc it a little more till you think thats the limit. think overheating is your biggest enemy when overclocking

Quad core is better than dual core, overclocking is a pretty complicated process for people who aren't extremely computer literate. And I believe its somewhat risky overclocking your proccessor.

Wow based on those specs I don't why you would have much issues with Sin's creed, what kind of video card do you have?

Never, ever overclock your processor. If anything, underclock your FSB by 1, it can potentially add a year to your motherboard.

i would say don't do that ... if u know that u can't do it right hmm i still haven;t come to learning overclocking... so this is my advice. well its not realy safe process i could say its hard one ... thats why i told not to do it ... rather play on assasin creed on minimum then ruin ur pc a bit .. then pay money to restore it.

u better learn from someone that has some experience on doing it by himself... learning by yourself from random tutorial can be risky

if done right its safe, although however there are chances youll burn your cpu
and a burned cpu wont get paid back by warranty

to overclock, first off all get a better cpu fan because standard fans wont cool that well, liquid cooling is possible
then you go overclocking, wich is done in the bios (afaik)
you got 2 options (forgot 3rd one, might be even be more)
they are increasing cpu core voltage and multiplying values
some mobos disable the option to change both options to overclock, although you can hardmod your cpu for that (a tiny copper wire connecting to 2 different pins, fail this, bb cpu) NOT RECOMMENDED

before you apply final settins and during the proces of increasing your speed, do a test and make sure its stable
if not stable, revert and leave it at that as the higher you overclock, the higher chance will be youll damage your cpu

i know its muddy but im too lazy to rewrite the post

Also, why is my video card having 3g ram? o.O

Is that bad? It's a 256 card.
