Whoever told you that was playing Red Orchestra very differently. The game is meant to be played in a team-based squad support affair. Reload is fairly realistic but not LONG TIME realistic.You're not supposed to get kills simply to get kills. If it really is an issue dunk the rifles and use an SMG like the Mp44.
Operation Flashpoint is just like Armed Assault simply with weaker graphics and a more clumsy interface(Because it was made quite a while ago). Some argue one is better than the other but it's completely subjective.
