Yeah, HolyTape, that would be why I said "Yawnfest '09".
Because I've either seen the bands there that interest me or they don't interest me. Quote:
The Mars Volta can be an extremely exciting band, but what they love doing most is being a live, experimental jam band. The Bedlam in Goliath, I think, was their best album, but it's clearly not The Mars Volta at their truest, even if it's them at their best in my opinion. That's why the live jam side is not a side of them I enjoy (Not to say I don't enjoy experimental jamming, I do within reason, just happens I don't enjoy it by them). I've seen them live, wasn't brilliant. Good, not brilliant. Coheed are just...anonymous to me. As for Nine Inch Nails, the only thing of exceptional thing Trent Reznor has ever done (Besides fitting his own head up his rectum in recent years) was The Fragile, and that was more by luck than judgement. I saw them on the Fragility 2.0 tour and it was amazing. I saw them on the With Teeth tour and it was just about the single most underwhelming, mediocre trite-a-thon I had ever had to endure, as was the following album and subsequently music (From what I've heard). The Dresden Dolls opened for them, and in comparison, were much better. I don't even like them. Then again, I'm a harsh critic. I've seen live just about every band or artist I listen to, and once you've seen Prince, Rammstein, Joanna Newsom or any of Mike Patton's bands, then any other band has trouble making you come away with a rave review. Although, NIN were genuinely bad that time. |

That would be enough for me to go though, Tennessee isn't actually very far from me. I doubt I could find anyone around here to go with though. |

Mars Volta I couldn't judge since I haven't seen them live, and haven't listened to them in a while, but from what I recall, I liked them very much. Coheed is just a fun band. NiN my brothers have seen, and supposedly they put on an excellent live show. I'm not sure which tour they went to, but they loved it. But yes, this list isn't very exciting. Now, if say, Presidents of the United States of America, Cursive, Gogol Bordello, Modest Mouse, Motion City Soundtrack (who put on the best live show I went to, but I haven't been to many shows. Surprisingly, though, they put on a better show than Gogol Bordello), or even the Dropkick Murphy's were on this list, then that would be very cool. Unfortunately, they are not. |
