I'm looking for a game that's free and a good RTS game. It doesn't have to be online, but it would be nice or cool if it was. Just a simple or atleast a 2 hour long learning curve max (unlike the Spring Engine which was confusing).
Is there such a good RTS that is free? I've been wanting to play something where I can build up a large army filled with tons of types of units and let me either destroy and obliterate another enemy, but not something where you can or have to jump right into the actions. But you also got to do stuff like build a farm or something to make food or money so you can build up your army. The last RTS games I got to play was some fantasy one, that I can't remember the name of, some Star Wars one, Spring Engine which like I said before was too hard for me to learn properly, and Tribal Age and Civ Age in Spore. It was fun in the Civ Age, but it was a little too simple. Not complex enough, and way too quick. Hopefully GA will fix that or make it a little better. Other than that, what good non-free RTS games is there? |

Saga, its a MMORTS, but for the really good stuff I suggest buying something like Command and Conquer The First Decade which has the first 12 C&C's. You cant fail with command and conquer.

I know you're looking for a free good RTS game, but I really don't think there is such a thing. You need to buy the really good ones, and a cheap one that a good amount of people still play online (because it's the best RTS game in history in most peoples opinions) would be Starcraft with the Brood War expansion pack.
If you can find Starcraft by itself in a store (w/o BW), $10 or less then just ask me for a download link to the expansion set (because BW doesn't require another CD-Key, only regular does), but the battle chest is $20=> and the trilogy or something like that is $15=> (doesn't include a strategy guide, but who needs that? ;p) Just DON'T buy a used copy of the game, of course. Other popular and good, yet more expensive ones, are Warcraft, Age of Empires (haven't played it) and some of the Command & Conquer games (Generals, Red Alert 3, C&C3 [the latest one]) |
