And there are a ton of P2P companies just in it for the money..you can usually tell by looking at their customer service/updates and if they release expansions instead of just updating regularly.
AO has gone for a long time and is still running strong + has a nice big graphics update...its f2p with option to p2p (though really only needed if you want to level up a lot faster and your more experienced with the game)
Personally I think this is the best way...requiem also did it this way and their running pretty well (though I think they overcharge for only giving a tiny bit of extra EXP per kill but then again I've never experienced both sides so I could be wrong)

Well as it appears now Funcom is in it for the money for AoC. Just look at their failures patch after patch. They also tend to announce something and promise that they will implement a much wanted feature RIGHT near the beginning of another billing cycle. Go figure. Funcom just doesn't know how to make AoC good.. it had a ton of potential.
