Out of the blue.... Should I go to college for Video Game Programming: 1.) What would I go for? 2.) Is a basic understanding of C++ needed prior to such learning? (That is not to say I am still not trying to learn.
)

2) Nope. You'll learn everything you need to at the university you choose, they pretty much start from the ground up, at least, at my university they did.

So, is that how you have the awesome skills to make something like your space shooter?
- 1.) What college might you recommend? 2.) Did you have previous knowledge prior? 3.) Is that the only course?

Lol, I dunno about how awesome it is but... no acutally. I learned alot of it on my own. But it's always good to get a degree, if this is something you want to do professionally.
1) I dunno, where do you live? 2) I took a beginner's course in C++ in highschool, but beyond that I learned most of the stuff myself, online. The tutorials I used are in the first post of this thread. 3) It's a full 120 credit program, Software Engineering. You get a bachelor's degree.

I've started trying to learn this in my spare time. with mixed results :/, mostly I'd forgotten how much crazy jargon programming has, especially this last lesson. Literary criticism is easier than this. (I'm only up to pointers, btw). still, I will persevere and reread till I understand every term in this lesson.
edit: it'd probably be easier if I had a computer of my own right now to run a compiler on. my family's pc blew something inside of it this morning

Either works ![]() Also, I've been meaning to rewrite this post so that it's more accessible and uses a more modern IDE; so if you stick around, it might change up. We'll see.

C++ was the first programming language i have known. it's actually the basic (for me) when it comes to programming because you'll learn the basics and the logic easily. it is not actually a requirement to know programming but as a gamer you could easily come up with ideas if you want to build your own game. as what i know, c++ comes with widgets already for easy interface design and solution by simply adding and dropping of objects!~
