Bees actually have a maneuver that easily deters hornets and works 90% of the time. Bees can raise their body temperature to insanely high levels. Basically, the bees have drones that patrol for disturbances such as a scout hornet. After a hornet is detected, the drone released a pheromone that attracts nearby bees. The bees will then cover the hornet and raise their body temperatures and literally scorch him to death. The hornet's exoskeleton can not withstand the temperature that bee's internal body heat can rise to; thus, the hornet is burned to death.
Go bees. |
