The "FFX was too linear" thing a lot of people say, doesn't really make much sense. FF games have always been linear. The lack of a world-map does not make it less linear, because as long as the game revolves around a "get from point A to B", with only a single end-result, it is linear.
Earlier FF games had a world map, but the story-progression, the "choices"(you didn't really get any since, they had no impact on the end anyways, except for FFX-2 ironically), and such makes then just as linear as FFX. FFX just removed the illusion of freedom by removing the worldmap. This didn't really change anything except that you had less room to run on =P A non-linear rpg would be Star wars KotOR. Anyways, linear isn't necessarily a bad thing. I'd rather have linear with a good story than non-linear with hardly any story. |
