Before I copy paste this rant from a previous post of mine, I want to note that I have nothing against the request board, in fact I frequent it because I enjoy the idea of helping people find a game that meets certain details of a game that they're looking for. That being said, the way it has been recently, and for a while now, I think we'd almost be better off just removing the damned section completely. So without further ado, the copypasta of my previous post (the OP that this was replying to asked for a game that was "fun" "didnt have a grind" and "had action"):
Can people ever just use the request system for what it's intended for, instead of asking for such widely vague criteria that's basically ALWAYS identical? Come on people. Basically you're asking for a game that's fun, as opposed to. . .what. . .not fun? "Hello, I'm looking for a game that's a real grind and boring and not fun to play and unrewarding." It's the general goal of all developers to make a game that is not only fun, but rewarding. So the level of fun you gain from it is slightly subjective don't you think? Maybe if you gave us some more criteria or details, such as "I would like it to have dinosaurs." okay that narrows it down "I would like it to have guns in it" alright now we're getting somewhere "I want an mmo that takes place in the future". Okay I think we can help you then. But just throwing out this "Give me a fun game thats WASD, GO" doesn't ever get anybody anywhere, it's just irritating, not to mention ignorant. The request board should have monitored rules: each request must have at least 3 critera, none of which can contain the words "action" "grind" "fun" or "Warcraft" Maybe we can implement an input form to weed out those ever-prevalent wonder requests that riddle the request board every day? Or a more well enforced ruleset? Maybe just start locking threads that ask for that golden game. I enjoy the request board very much, I like helping people find the game that they're looking for, but these days it just gets constantly abused and it's a big joke.

If someone doesn't provide enough criteria and examples of what they like to get a helpful answer, the only person that is being harmed is themselves. If you don't like these threads, there's nothing forcing you to respond. I can understand that that experience is frustrating for you, but you can make the decision to ignore them and not waste your time.
Being vague, I'm afraid, is not against the rules. They're perfectly on-topic asking for a perfect game in the MMORPG requests forum, and if they're too vague then all you can do is ask them to elaborate, or move on to someone you think you can help more. People are always going to ask for an MMORPG that doesn't have grind, and locking these topics just isn't practical. Sorry, but I doubt anything is going to change in the MMORPG Request forum. It seems to be working fine as it is. |

Although the idea of a request form is interesting. I'm sure it would be a lot of work, but it might be interesting if we had a search database. It would contain basically every game that someone could think to input, as well as information about the game, and search descriptions. People could simply enter their own search criteria, and then go through the list of games that meets their criteria. If they're too vague, they just won't see much results.

I would like it to have dinosaurs :P I think you should have referred him to a F2P list.
Hey - I think that "action" is a valid criteria for gameplay-type... Maybe since I focus on RTS, turn-based strategy (I'm playing two at the moment), and even though there are many "MMORPG"s, action can be a lot different in S4 League/Dragonica/Grand Chase/Viva Fighter/Rumble Fighter than in games that are more PvE-oriented. |
