Sometimes MMOs feel like glorified chat services- you just don't get sucked into them, or the real world keeps kicking you in the fanny, or you don't have a sense of identity compared with everyone else at your level in your class wearing your armour.

So what are some games that create that engrossing feeling that's kind of like our own world- not just in the respect of geography and lore, but also the way in which you interact with players, and the way in which you can differentiate yourself from other people?
