Help a fellow runner out? Lately I've been trying to get into parkour - practicing my vaults, jumps, rolls, and the like. Unfortunately, I've been having some trouble finding the right shoes. I've been using a decent pair of trail runners for the time-being, but I feel like a new pair would really help me out. Mine have fairly decent grip, are pretty durable, and are the perfect weight, but they're just not built right for the stuff I've been doing.
tl;dr - Can anyone recommend a great pair of shoes for parkour? Something with lots of grip, preferably stiff and durable. Also, any tips to a novice would be amazing. Feel free to discuss all things related to parkour and freerunning in this thread; I don't really care how it turns out so long as the discussion is somewhat related to the sport. |

What I suggest is you use Converse or other high ankle shoes. Trust me, you'll be getting alot of twisted ankles without it. Also, if you need just high traction/durable sneakers, then you should try out Vans or DC sneakers. They're very durable, and have amazing grip. |

Don't apply what Akira has typed, he's setting you up for a disaster.
![]() I used a similar version of these, but you should find these as comfortable. They have a nice "light" feel too it, tonnes of ankle support, and they have quite the flexability. They also have a material that doesn't soak up sweat as easily and have a lot of air ducts, so your feet will feel great after a nice run. I hope you're stretching everyday, and getting atleast SOME sort of gymnastics lesson. |

I am looking for something with a bit of a tread though, so skate shoes won't really cut it for me. As for converse, I've got an old pair laying around that's taken a lot of punishment just from walking, I can't imagine what would happen if I tried running in them (or what would happen to my feet

Any idea on the name of those Nikes though? I'll go look for 'em tomorrow so I can see how they feel. |

How much do you weigh? Is there a weight req. for parkour?

There's no weight requirement, but you do need to be fairly active and fit. The only tools you need are your arms and legs, thus if you're out of shape you would have a very difficult time with some of the stuff. Just for the record though, I'm 6' and 175 lbs.
