So what are some games that create that engrossing feeling that's kind of like our own world- not just in the respect of geography and lore, but also the way in which you interact with players, and the way in which you can differentiate yourself from other people?
ultima online hands down. skills ranging from fishing, animal herding, to freaking cooking, tailoring, carpentry, cartagraphy, hiding. NO chat system what so ever, other than text appearing above your head (and party chat). Not even a friends list. If you wanted to communicate with your friend, u had to do it the old fashion way. Go visit their house (in-game of course) or their usual hangouts and see if they were there. (wasnt too hard since with magic you could teleport to any location you had previously "marked", so you could instantly warp to these locations very quickly)
