Aranock Online is a free MMORPG set in a fantasy world. In the world of Aranock, you take on the role of an adventurer trying to complete quests and explore the world in the hopes of finding treasure, rising in rank and becoming a powerful warrior.

Aranock Online is built on the "Mercenaries of Astonia V2" engine (not to be confused with the current P2P version, Astonia III: The Conflict). It is a top-down, two-dimensional isometric role-playing game, controlled primarily with your mouse and the CTRL/ALT/Shift keys.

Players familiar with the original "Mercenaries of Astonia" will notice some drastic changes from that game. First, the graphics have all been updated, and the layout of the main city has been altered. All the merchants who were previously scattered around town are now consolidated into "the market". There are a few new quest areas, changes to old quest areas and new NPCs who ask for new items in exchange for new skills. There are several new levels of the Labyrinth, and several changes to the Pentagram Quest as well. There are even new areas for making money, including the Cemetery and the Sea. Old players will also notice there are new skills and spells to be obtained, as well as the addition of "Luck Poles" and random experience scrolls hidden in treasure chests in certain new areas. Clans have also made a recent comeback. It's a whole new gaming experience for those who loved "Mercenaries of Astonia" but crave something new.

New players will also find plenty to love about Aranock Online. A friendly community of players who enjoy helping each-other wait to greet you and help you get your start.

When a new player starts out, he first creates a character (you can have as many characters as you like). At the outset, you may choose from three different base races - the Templar (fighter), Harakim (mage) or Mercenary (balanced). From there, once you reach the appropriate level and complete the appropriate quests, you may eventually become one of several other races; Arch- Templar/Harakim (more powerful versions of the base races), Warrior/Sorcerer (more powerful versions of the mercenary) or the all-powerful Seyan'Du.

There are tons of quests to do in-town for a new character. Finishing these quests will increase your experience, gold and give you new skills and spells to put to use. After you've finished all your town quests, you can move on to exploring the Strange Forest, the Sewers, the Mountains and the Labyrinth, to name just a few. For extra experience, you can participate in the Pentagram Quest, explore the new areas, kill undead in the Graveyard or hope to find valuable treasure in the Random Dungeon. And, if you're lucky, you may just get to take part in a Live Quest - an event made up and run by a member of the staff. This could be anything from trivias to arena contests to story-driven quests that involve monsters invading the town and the players trying to track down and stop an evil leader...or anything else the staff manage to dream up! Prizes for these quests may range from extra experience, gold or valuable items. You don't want to miss LQs!

If you're looking for a PvP challenge, you can join the ranks of the Followers of the Purple one (or just "Purple"). Purple players are unable to locate each-other in the "Who's Online" list, and are only able to attack other Purple players within + or - three ranks of themselves (this means that a Captain may only fight with players ranging from Sergeant Major to Colonel). This way, players not interested in PvP don't have to be involved, and new Purples can get their feet wet without being completely dominated by players who far outrank them. This is also a good place to explain deaths, because they happen often for Purple players. If you are killed by a monster (or a Purple player), you immediately respawn at the Temple - naked and penniless. Whatever items and gold you were carrying on you when you died are left on your body - or "Grave" - and may be looted by any monsters in the area, or the Purple player who killed you. Note: Monsters in LQs do not loot graves. You have 30 minutes from the moment you die to get back to your body and reclaim your items, before it disappears. It's a good idea to bring help, though, since you'll be without your weapons and armor, and whatever killed you is probably still there. Also, a "real" death (anything outside of the arena) will cost you a small amount of experience, which is taken from you in the form of a few points of permanent HP/MP loss.

If you want the PvP challenge without the risk of losing your items and experience, there's another option - join a Clan! The game has ten clan slots, and a clan may have any number of members (but a single character may only be a member of one clan). Clans are constantly at war with each-other, and clan members fight over Platinum, which runs the clan-based economy. Platinum allows clans to build, maintain and upgrade their clan hall, and can be won in combat, mined at the city mines or bought from other players for gold. And, during an LQ, clan fighting is disabled to allow members of opposite clans to work together for the greater good! Clan deaths are treated the same as deaths in the arena - you do not lose experience, and your items stay with you.

If, however, PvP does not appeal to you, but you want to be able to experience the game with a group of friends, there's an option for you, too! Players who are within + or - three ranks of each-other may form a Group. Grouping allows players to keep tabs on one-another's location, and check on their friend's health and mana status. If grouped players are within visual range of (on the same screen as) one-another, they will also share experience from kills. Additionally, grouped players have a private chat channel, with a different-colored text to keep it separate from the general game chat. There is no limit to the amount of players that can be in a single group, but everyone in that group has to be withing grouping range of each-other. This is a good way to experience the more difficult areas of the game, and is almost essential for making it through some of the later, challenging areas of the Labyrinth.

The skill and stat system allows for complete character customization. You can be a stealthy fighter able to sneak up on and attack your prey unseen, or you can be a tank with superior fighting ability able to withstand almost any attack. You can be a support-spelling mage who makes sure that your teammates stay alive and buffed, or you can be a major destructive force with the ability to blast all those around you into oblivion. Perhaps you'd like to focus on bartering to become rich, or learn to pick locks so you can get through doors without searching for the key? The kind of character you play will completely depend on you and your style. And there's no limit to the amount of characters you may create and play as, so you can try out any crazy build you want!

The community is friendly and eager to help out a new player - stop by the forums and they'll be happy to teach you how to build an uber character! Or just introduce yourself and say hi. The game download comes with a tutorial which should help get you started. If you still have questions, though, pop into the game and type in /who to see who's currently online. If you see any names in green, those are members of the staff, and they will be more than happy to help you get started and answer your questions (and if they're not around, try just asking the players, most of them are happy to help as well). You can either ask a question to everyone online with /shout I need help!, or you can send a message to a specific person with /tell [name] I need help!. So if you wanted to ask Vlad for help, you would type /tell vlad I need help!

The game is completely, 100% free. It is maintained by a dedicated group of admin who donate their own money and time to keep the place going - and Aranock has been up and running since 2003. The development team are constantly hard at work building new areas to explore and new quests to complete. You may encounter bugs, but the best thing to do is to let the admin know when, where and how you encountered it and they'll do their best to work it out.

So stop by and have a look. And welcome to Aranock Online!
All of the screenshots on the database page need to be updated as well. You may use any, or all of the following as they show the updated graphics and new areas, as well as the stats system.

Thanks for your help
