Default Shakugan no Shana III [Caution: Thread contains potential spoilers]

Hello all. Before I start on this thread topic, I would like to make the title of this thread extremely clear.

The type of discussion I expect to take place in this thread will involve essential storyline details and obviously discussion about the end sequence of the second season of Shakugan no Shana. These discussions will most likely spoil something if you have not seen both Shakugan no Shana and Shakugan no Shana II. In fact, I guarantee you that my first post will contain spoilers.

I highly advise watching both seasons to their entirity before participating in discussion or even reading on.

Now, with that little disclaimer out of the way, I can move on.

So what is this thread essentially about? The release of Shakugan no Shana III, which is possibly going to occur by fall of this year. I have seen many sources that have said "yes, Shakugan no Shana III will be announced" and at the same time, sources that have said "no one knows about Shakugan no Shana III, it's only a rumor so far."

The other half of the discussion in this thread is more viewer subjective stuff such as:

Do you think that there is enough meat left to make a continuation series?

Do you want to see more Shakugan no Shana, or did the second season dash your hopes into a bottomless pit of despair and eternity of wrist cutting?

If you do want to see more Shakugan no Shana, what do you want the series to accomplish?

There are many more questions that you can ask yourself about Shakugan no Shana, but I'll throw those three out there for stimulation.

So to give my portion of the discussion, I do believe that a third season will come around. The manga series goes beyond even the second season of the anime (though it is arguable that a lot of animes are cut short of the full manga series). But looking at it from just a viewer's standpoint, there is a lot of space left for a season 3.

As far as official news goes, I don't believe I have any truely reliable source to say "YES, SEASON THREE WILL EXIST, PARTY AT MY HOUSE!" At the same time, the amount of research I did was very minimal - perhaps someone has more information they would want to share?

Now for my subjective portion that will contain lots of spoilers...

Caution again, if you haven't seen Shakugan no Shana I and II, go do that before you keep reading!

I believe that there is a lot, and I mean A. FREAKIN. LOT. of stuff left that could be done in Shakugan no Shana III. Let me make a little list
  • First and foremost, no one from Bal Masque was killed. This is just like season one. None of the main baddies are dead, and as long as there are villians, there is a storyline. And unlike Death Note, Shakugan no Shana isn't resorting to making new characters materialize from thin air to fill up a compartively pointless section of the series (unless you count Konoe Fumina as that kind of character.)
  • The Reiji Maigo is still messed up. The insignia that Sabrac put on it was never removed. Johan is still sealed inside Reiji Maigo. The keeper is still on Reiji Maigo. The Silver is still within the Reiji Maigo. Whatever jacked up spell Hecate put on it in the mid-end of the second series was either removed upon extraction or is still there even after Yuji got it back.
  • What kind of dynamic will exist between the Shana - Yuji - Yoshida triangle after Yuji makes his "choice" at the end of the second series? Who did he even pick? My vote goes to Shana, but people can say otherwise. I know most people probably aren't a fan of the drama of the dynamic (the first half of the second season), but it's an essential piece of the story that can't be thrown away so easily.
  • Where did Pheles go? What is it that Johan wanted her to do? How is her little solo project going to contribute to the main story? I feel like they sent her away and never made her come back on purpose so that they could have meat for a season three.
  • Sabrac still isn't dead (after all that...I want whatever he's on). It was more or less implied that he was going to retire his killing spree for a while, but I'm not really sure.
  • Yuji was FINALLY starting to get useful in terms of combat. I want to see him grow to an equivalent level of Shana. If they did that, the combat scenes could be a LOT more interesting. For example, the whole teamwork concept behind the battle against Sabrac was probably my favorite battle scene in any Shakugan no Shana episode from season I or II.
  • That Hougu that Pheles gave to Yoshida is still floating out there in her possession. If I recall correctly, that watch glass hougu that Yoshida got in the first season was either returned, lost, or given to some other character. I forgot which of these it is. I expect that something will happen to that shiny cross of hers.
  • For more drama input, I'm actually curious as to how the Ike - Yoshida relationship will work out. If Yuji really did pick Shana, how would that work out?
  • Lastly, is Satou going to end up working for Outlaw? How will that work out? And what about Eita and his relationship with Margery? Is that ever going to fix itself completely or is Eita going to continue with whatever declaration he made before?

BLAH. So that's everything I could think of that needs explanation and could have some sort of episode-worthy filling. You're free to add more, go into more depth about the ones I mentioned, or correct some things that I said (names, objects, etc).

And as a little concluder note, I'm interested to know what everyone's favorite Shakugan no Shana character is.

Mine would have to be Tiamat and Wilhelmina (yeah, I cheated and chose 2 characters). I love Tiamat for her epic monotone, bear minimum speech, especially quoting "damned fool" and "face facts" from the second season. Wilhelmina owns for (part 1) her ~de arimasu usage and (part 2) simply because she kicks *** and fits multiple character roles.

Phew, well that's about all I think. Discuss discuss!

I don't believe there will be a third season... It'd seem ridiculous.

Honestly, Those are good points, and there could be a 3rd season, but did you think about reasons there won't be a third season? Almost as many as the reasons they will.

Well the fact that you provided no reasons as to why they wouldn't make a third series makes me believe that either there are no good reasons or you didn't put the thought into it. The only reason I can think of is that the second season did not have a satisfiable viewer base and that making a third season would be uneconomical (hence, the poll).

I also don't see how a third season would be ridiculous. There is no difference between chopping up a show into multiple series or having it go on for hundreds of episodes as one show. If you were to look at bleach, you could call the initial soul society stuff season 1, the bound season 2, etc etc. Same main characters, different crises, and in some cases, different enemies too.

Actually I take that back. Chopping things up into seasons removes all the pointless fillers by compacting the essentials into 24 rather than 204 episodes.

You might have also missed out on the point where I stated that there are several sources that claim that there will be a third season, regardless of my own opinion and claims.

Anyway, it's still all up in the air right now.
