It would have to be done absolutely right for me to go see it, considering he's been one of my top three characters ever, since I've read comics. Fast climbing the ranks.
Ryan Reynolds actually does love the character, he gets everything about him, and you can tell in interviews that he wasn't TOO thrilled with the current X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie portrayal, even though he enjoyed it. As he said: "My dream is to do a 100%, faithful Deadpool movie, straight out of the comic book. Crazy humour, insane action, all that trademark acerbic wit. You know? Pop culture references, breaking the fourth wall. This guy knows he's in a comic, he'd know he's in a movie.". It could be Marvel's first action comedy, because Deadpool is hilarious. Trouble is, Marvel are CLEARLY focusing on this massive project centred around The Avengers; Captain America, Thor and Nick Fury all have solo movies coming out before The Avengers. Iron Man 2 is out next year. They should, because this is a massive project, and if one chain-link fails, it could mess up the rest. For example: my fear is that Iron Man 2 will suffer second movie syndrome. I think they'll try to introduce too many characters and it'll just end up becoming a cameo show, while we await the inevitable 3rd movie and all speak about how amazing the first one was. BUT, I trust Jon Favreau. As long as Scarlett Johnansson isn't bad as Black Widow (Or too plot-centric), and Mickey Rourke is good as Whiplash, I think it'll be alright. I just...fear. I hate when they juggle villains. It's like watching an epileptic man juggling chainsaws at a rave; you just know that it's gonna go wrong, and when it does, you'll be filled with a pungent mix of "I told you so." smugness and "Well that was stupid." condemnation. Sorry, bit of a huge tangent there. Point is; this is their huge project for the forseeable future, and thus, Deadpool don't matter to Hollywood. If the project bombs, Deadpool will never be anything other than straight to video/DVD. I wouldn't mind that, because Blade was pretty damn good for something that wasn't a mega budget movie. Even though it was brutal plot butchery, which doesn't matter THAT much snce Blade is a major minor character in Marvel. They actually got WORSE as they got bigger budgets, ironically with Ryan Reynolds starring in the 3rd. Deadpool would not get the money or creative input it deserves, and he's not a big enough name to draw crowds. Although, if done absolutely right, it would either do well in the cinema, or earn shitloads from DVD sales. The problem with Deadpool is also that it would have to be quite graphic, so making it PG or whatever the American equal is, wouldn't work. That said, I think if they did the gore like say, Kill Bill, it'd be so perfect. Watchmen needed to be graphic, and it was, but because it was rated R (And poor), it did bad at the box office. So I doubt a rated R superhero movie will ever happen again. They do need to give it a semi-adult rating though, if they do it. None of this PG nonsense that Wolverine's character suffers from, where the guy has claws and we don't see him carve anyone up. Ryan Reynolds is the only guy I want attached to Deadpool, though. His one scene in the elevator as pre-Deadpool Wade Wilson was the best thing about X-Men Origins: Wolverine. However, would Marvel allow a Deadpool movie to break away from what was shown in that movie, and the bastardised end version of Deadpool (Weapon XI, sorry. *Rolls eyes*)? Doubtful. Oh well, I'd rather them not make one than make one and **** it up. So I guess we'll have to settle for them putting all their energy into things like X-Men Origins: Magneto, which I am super, mega, turbo excited for... --- For those of you who have trouble reading anything longer than 4Chan meme; my basic point of view is that I'd go see it if done right. Norrin has pretty much said everything to say in this thread but a movie with deadpool in could be cool but with him as the lead? I'm not sure if it would work. I personnaly would love to see X-men done well, I love the arc going in the current comics (Civil War and actual individual character stories) and a little less kiddy film would be really cool. |

UK, May 6, 2009 - Fox today announced another X-Men Origins spin-off, this time based on one of the "Easter egg" endings that appear at the end of the Wolverine movie.
Depending on which cut of the movie you saw in cinemas, there was both Wolverine and Deadpool postscripts, spoiler-filled descriptions of which can be found here. And having donned our best investigative journalist hats, IGN was exclusively told this by a source close to Fox about the oft-rumoured feature: "We are developing a spin-off with Deadpool. It is one of the two different 'Easter egg' scenes after the credits of Wolverine and hints at two different movies that are coming from them. As expected, the Deadpool sequel has been greenlit. "One is the Japan backstory which was announced earlier, the other is about Deadpool. The film, which would be produced by Lauren Shuler Donner and Marvel, has Ryan Reynolds attached and would be a complete exploration of this unique character -- his origins, his emergence as the 'Merc with the Mouth,' etc." The source went on to add that Fox is currently looking for writers for both projects. Elsewhere, The Hollywood Reporter claims that the movie will go "back to the roots of the character known for his slapstick tone and propensity to break the fourth wall." So do you want to see a Deadpool spin-off? And if so would you like to see it venture into more humorous territory? Feel free to sound-off in the comments below. sauce: http://movies.ign.com/articles/979/979991p1.html spoiler of a 2nd ending scene...you been warned But in this Easter egg ending, we find Wade's headless body lying in the rubble of the destroyed nuclear plant. Suddenly, his arm reaches out towards his decapitated head nearby, which then seemingly comes back to life and breaks the fourth wall, saying to the audience, "Shhhhhhh." It's a textbook Wade Wilson act that you'd expect to find in the comics, as the wise-*** character is known for acknowledging the audience that is reading his adventures. unconfirmed 3rd ending We've also heard reports of a third ending, though IGN has not been able to confirm the existence of this one. It is said to be a variation on the Deadpool clip above, though here Reynolds shows up and picks up the head -- the implication being that the Weapon XI that was killed was just a clone of the real Wade Wilson.
