I would also recommend Wonderful Days/Sky Blue

The movie has an amazing storyline set in a post-apocalyptic Japan. As well as biker gangs like in akira and military action, the movie explores deeper psychological and philosophical themes like in Akira or Ghost in the Shell. It's a Korean movie that is a few years old, the visual aspect of the animation is stunningly good even by modern standards though.
