Eden - It's an Endless World!
Both manga are set in post-apocalyptic settings and show the aftermath rebuilt society, all the corruption and the violence. Full of visual detail and cyberpunk depth, I'd say that Eden and Akira are great companion pieces. You should really read this one if you haven't read it yet. |

I didn't notice you that you were asking for anime also.
I would also recommend Wonderful Days/Sky Blue The movie has an amazing storyline set in a post-apocalyptic Japan. As well as biker gangs like in akira and military action, the movie explores deeper psychological and philosophical themes like in Akira or Ghost in the Shell. It's a Korean movie that is a few years old, the visual aspect of the animation is stunningly good even by modern standards though. |
