Not bad for a coder, though. Do you use a tablet or do it the hard way with the mouse?

Mouse
Back in the day I would do it as pixel art, a pixel at a time using a program I wrote for the job but these days I work at about 800 * 800 pixels as it doesnt matter how crappy the picture looks at that size with thick lines and smudging etc as when you resize it down to 40 * 40 it often looks a lot better!

Apply a sharpen filter and you are good to go!

When I am in the zone I can spit out an item picture every 5 - 10minutes, I recently drew 2000 images for my other game Lands of Hope over a several week period simply so I could say the items all had images (that game has 6000 base items).

Here is some potion artwork for Legendary Voyage, for this game I am trying something new where I create a template image and the server re-colors parts of the image to suit the material of the object for example you make a Blue steel sword it uses a sword image and recolors the blade to be blue.

It saves on having to draw a ton of images and as it is done server side I can just let it do its thing and look back at all the color variations.

Although I do plan on adding different image variations over time, here is an example:

Item examples

Latest News
NPCs with available quests now have a star and the number of quests they have to offer above their head, this is so that players can see quickly without having to interact with an NPC if there is something to do from them or not ... fairly common in MMORPGs and something I am glad to have added.

Chat Target
A new button has been added at the top of the menu that lets you choose a chat target this list includes NPCs and Players as well as Global/Public channels. Choosing a target overwrites the default world chat and will make it easier to talk to the target you specified as you will not need to use a / command. You just talk normaly and it prefixes the chat with the necessary commands.

NPC Talk
Using the new button above you can now speak to NPCs and ask them how they are doing, ask them if they need anything, ask them if they know where someone is or if they have heard any rumors.

The NPCs reply with vital/useful information.

Gifts
A new feature has been added to NPCs which is a system revolving around gifts, think of it as another form of questing.

Essentially on your travels you may come across odd or junk type items that you have no use for, these may be very rare or they may be as common as mud (or even perhaps be mud ... who knows).

An NPC in the land may take such an item as a Gift and give you a gift in return, however these NPCs do not publicize the item they want nor do they tell you where to get it ... after all if you have to ask someone for a gift its not a true gift from the heart!

Current rewards for these quests are a cool line of NPC inspired level 10 weapons with higher stats than like level crafted items.

Facebook
Yesterday work began on a Facebook Application for the game, it will be my first time working with Facebook and unfortunately for me I am using ASP Classic ... unfortunate because most Facebook examples are in PHP or .NET.

Great news a new movement system has now been integrated, this means movement is a lot smoother and more realistic compared to the old system which was tile based and to some appeared to be laggy.

I am pushing ahead with adding/tweaking content and am on course for my August 1st release date!

Also Facebook is now fully integrated for those that use Facebook you can login to the game via our face book application.

No more monkeying around as we now have artwork for the Furangutan race!

New Race Funguine

Above is some artwork for a new race called "Funguine", they are a normally harmless species of Fungus/Mushroom but if provoked can get very nasty!

The Adventures of Humble Dillweed (Number 1)
This document is a written account of my adventures in the lands in particular this document focuses on a chance encounter in Claws Den a horrible place to vacation!

My friends kept telling me I should get out and see the world more, so I took a trip to Mr Blots Travel Store and purchased one of those package holidays that are all the rage these days.

The documentation said a relaxing holiday in the Ice caves of the Frozen Wastes with no people around to spoil your enjoyment ... unfortunately it never mentioned monsters!

The first day was relatively nice, as I travelled across ice flows and such and witnessed cute foxes playing in the snow. I made camp outside a cave that my tour brochure listed as Claws Den and decided to explore it the following day.

Well dawn came and my adventures truly began, as I entered the cave a horrid stench wafted into my nostrils. I continued further into the cave and encountered a hostile race of apes that my brochure listed as "Cute and Loveable". Perhaps a misprint! as these beasts were certainly not cute.

My tour brochure said lunch would be provided and imagine my surprise as one of the cave rooms had a selection of Yeti snacks on offer including a couple of Tundra Foxes, again one has to wonder if I am to be expected to kill a fox and cook it myself as lunch or if the tour company simply made another misprint!

Further on still I ran into a much nastier kind of ape, these brutes were ferocious and almost cost me my life but somehow I prevailed and continued.

I eventually came across this beautiful crystal formation and decided it must be worth continuing!

After escaping the crystals with my life barely intact I ran into a most vicious creature that was clearly the leader of this band of savages. I believed myself to be out classed in this encounter and ran up some near by steps ... it turns out those steps were my salvation and led into an old storage room in the lower levels of Frostbite City!

After voicing my concerns to the tour guide he offered me a free replacement trip to the Rainbow Cascades, I must say they sound nice and certainly not dangerous perhaps I will write about my travels there another day!

There is now a post on the Legendary Voyage that outlines the differences between the current BETA version and what will be turned on as "Live" on August 1st.

http://www.legendaryvoyage.com/forum...opic.asp?t=263

Highlights of this post include:

* 600+ monsters (up from the BETAs < 200)
* 100+ quests (up from the BETAs < 30)
* 600+ areas (up from the BETAs < 200)
* 3 finished continents (up from the BETAs < 2)

** Better movement system, which should make moving a lot smoother in all browsers when using the WASD keys. (The current BETA system seems to suffer from various browser differences and is hindered by your CPU speed)
** Better NPC interaction.
** Environmental animations, such as Butterflies.
** Better artwork for Switches and Levers.
** Marriage (the ability to marriage a player of mutual consent), may eventually lead to a Marital house of some description.
** Many tweaks to the GUI and a better looking interface.
** Inventory filtering for faster item finding/categorizing.
** Most nearly all the screens in the game tweaked in some way for ease of use over the BETA edition.

Here are some new screenshots:

One of the first screenshots of the fourth continent "Avaleron". The hot lava fields making my fur smell like burnt hamster (don`t ask)....

An area under the majestic Frostbite City, a horrid fungus monster is stinking up the place!

Today saw the release of a brand new level 30+ dungeon, containing over 60 monsters to kill!.

This dungeon is especially fun as it is split into 4 section with each section being based around a test, the tests related to four of the main attributes "Might", "Wisdom", "Luck" and "Speed".

Completing the dungeon will advance the storyline and prove your worthiness!

Also announced today is Runecrafting (the ability to make runes will be coming soon).

Check out http://www.legendaryvoyage.com/

Thank you!

Hi folks, tis I Humble Dillweed!

After my last vacation to the Frozen Wastes (http://www.legendaryvoyage.com/forum...opic.asp?t=256) I thought perhaps I needed to go somewhere warmer, it occurred to me that Avaleron with its boiling lava springs and hot night life would be the place to go.

The following is a written account of my latest trip!

Well I stepped off the teleporter and was immediately hit by the warmth of my surroundings; you know a hot summer day can be nice once in a while so I thought this could be fun. Although to avoid severe sun burn I decided to put on some FRF50 (Fire Resistance factor) lotion and then set off to explore.

I stopped to ask a strange looking dude the directions to the nearest hostel but all he did was fling fire bolts at me and try to get me to melt in his arms so I spent the first few moments on Avalaron running from him and his kind. I chanced upon some stairs down while I was fleeing and thought a cave had to be cooler and perhaps in this case safer, but even the cave was full of these strange beasts and being trapped underground made me have deep sympathy for anything that gets cooked in an oven!

Finally I made it to the end of a cave and managed to stop for a brief respite, I chanced upon some Adventurer chap who shared some water with me and gave me directions to a small outpost further ahead where I might find lodgings and be able to purchase some better supplies.

I set off again, walking and sometimes running from lava field to lava field and from one monster to the next eventually stumbling into camp and begging for protection...

The next morning I awoke rested from the previous day’s ordeal and set about preparing for my guided tour into the volcano, the brochure said it was one of the best kept secrets of wonder left in the world and this had me curious!

After spending a few days in town I shipped out with Anita as she was my guide and we ventured off to the volcano, she led me and a few others into a hole below the town apparently this was a secret passage to the volcano island. She let us all know that there were some cute lizards to be seen in the cave, I should have known something was up when she showed us half a dead cow she planned to use as food for us to throw to the little things. At first we smelt them, a mix of stale eggs and smoke fumes then we heard their whining and screeching and finally we came across a Fire Lizard, these baby cousins of Dragons were much larger than Anita had led us to believe but seemed sated by the cow we had brought along and offered us no resistance as we travelled to the volcano island.

So there we were back on solid ground again, at the foot of the volcano. Anita pointed out the strange critters I had run from at the start of my vacation were in fact called Magmatrons and were hardy lava dwelling beasts that ate fresh lava and burped out flammable gases causing their fire bolts. She told us they were not really harmful but the fire bolts were merely a byproduct of a natural process. If I had been paying attention perhaps I would have noticed the smirk on her face when she told us that.

One of our party suffered a nasty gash on the volcanic rocks as we travelled up the mountain, and while we tended to them we were set upon by the Magmatrons. Anita was apparently skilled in Water Magic because she tossed numerous water spells at them putting out their harmful fire bolts and giving us enough time to venture further up the volcano.

After reaching the top of the volcano, Anita ushered us past an amazing statue of a huge Fire Lizard and into the safety of a large cave. It was here that we met another adventure by the name of Dirk who told us about this amazing resort in the bowels of the volcano where the drinks are free, the food delicious and the surroundings devine.

Tomorrow we will head over to the resort to check it out, but for now we are spending the night in the cave.

I shall write more when I can, this traveling lark sure sounds more romantic when someone else is doing the writing!

A few days ago some players held an inpromptu fancy dress event in a town, everyone came dressed as a Mushroom!

More work has been conducted on the interface now, you can interact with world items using a single mouse click when you are standing next to them.

Here is the new look full window interface with all of the game content loading in fully customizable popup windows.

Finally, the latest continent called the Lost Chain has been released!

With level 36+ monsters!

We now have some new sprite artwork to be incorporated in the future. Here are some samples:

In addition to that,4 new dungeons for level 35 thru 39 have been added in the past few days.

Also a new Power Reduction skill was added that reduces the cost of your powers by 10% for each point you have in the skill.

We have some new artwork for the Harpy race or as we call it the Sandharper.

Also the level 40 "special" weapons are now in, and they are for want of more mature and better words ... freaking uber!
