Basically, you can't charge in without thinking a little. You usually do a 3 hit combo (can do 4 but its slow) and the enemy is knocked back. Attacking again will fail because you'll get attacked back. You have multiple stances to counter attack with like defend which blocks and stuns the enemy for an opening.
