General FAQ

What is War Rock?

War Rock is a tactical online multiplayer FPS (first-person shooter) with a modern military theme. Players side with either the Derbaran Military or the NIU Mercenaries, and participate in a variety of scenarios across a variety of maps and gameplay modes.

Free2Play? It’s really free?

War Rock is free to play, and free to download. That's right, it's free. You can play this game and make it to the top ranks, unlock weapons, etc. without ever paying a dime. When the game goes commercial, users will be able to purchase access to special benefits and features, but War Rock will continue to be free for all users.

Where can I get it?

There are various download mirrors, which you can find here. When WR goes commercial, you will also be able to purchase special packages with prepaid benefits and official WR loot at participating retailers.

What do you mean by “Open Beta”?

Although the game is not finished, we have opened up a limited test version to the public in order to give everyone a peek at the game, as well as gather information with which to make the commercial release even better.

Commercial Release?

Once the game is ready, a “commercial release“ download will be available, as well as the special packages offered at retailers. At this point, the current game will be available in its entirety. It will continue to be patched regularly with updates and new content, including maps and weaponry.

What is PunkBuster?

Punk Buster is an anti-cheat program. For more information, visit their website at http://evenbalance.org.

Technical FAQ

System Requirements

War Rock can be enjoyed by users with low end computers as well as by high end power gamers. Those with slower systems may experience game lag or require many of the graphical effects be set to low or off. The game requires a minimum of DirectX 8.0. Make sure your OS, Sound Card, and Video Drivers are up to date. Beta drivers may cause problems and are not recommended.

Supported Resolutions

War Rock currently supports the following in Game Resolutions. We will be including higher resolutions in future releases of the game.

Joystick/Controller Support

War Rock currently does not include native support for Joysticks and Game Controllers. We will be including this feature in a future update to the game.

Remapping Keys

War Rock currently does not support re-mapping of the keyboard. We will be including this feature in a future update to the game.

Known Issues

Integrated Video Chip Sets

Users with Integrated video chip sets on their mother boards may experience in-game play being much darker then it should be. We are currently looking into a solution for this; please visit the Tech Support forum at http://forum.warrock.net/index.php?f=18 for more details.

NetLimiter

Please do not use programs that may interfere with data transfer (ie. NetLimiter), as it will be reported by PunkBuster as a hack.

I keep getting kicked by PunkBuster for "Blocked O/S Privileges"!

Please temporarily disable other security programs you have running such as anti-virus, process guard, SDProtector, etc. to find out which of them is blocking PB's access to resources on your computer. You will then need to run PB without the blocking program(s) or play on non-PB servers.

Known issues behind a corporate firewall or proxy:

• If you are experiencing problems downloading the latest game patch, please contact your firewall administrator to clear the http cache on the proxy server (clearing the cache will allow all users behind the corporate proxy to get the latest update from our game server). If possible please ask them to add http://patch.warrock.net to be unfiltered from the proxy.

Certain ports that may also need to be open if you are not able to play on-line are TCP: 5340 and UDP: 5350. You may need to ask your network administrator to open them.

I can’t download vs. zip, or I have high latency / frequent disconnects from the server!

Please check your firewall and router settings. War Rock requires you to open and allow TCP: 5340 and UDP: 5350. This may also be caused by proxy servers, which are used for indirect connections. If you are using a proxy server, it must allow traffic from http://patch.warrock.net.

Gameplay FAQ

How do I gain a level?

You will gain ranks by accumulating experience points, which can be earned in various ways (capturing flags, killing enemy soldiers, etc). The points you earn will vary depending upon how many players are in the game and the action you took.

How do I get new weapons/items?

For every level, you will earn 5000 Dinar, the in-game currency. You can use this in the Inventory shop (accessible from the Lobby) to "lease" new weapons and equipment.

What is the penalty for leaving a game early?

You will suffer a penalty to any points or Dinar you earned during that game.
