I think comparing a 3d java game and a 2d browser game is an exercise in futility tbh. Both Eternum and Runescape can easily coexist with one another, anyway.

I do think the jump from browser games being largely text-based to graphically driven is pretty important however. Compare Eternum to a MUD and it comes across as pretty damn impressive, but when you start off by comparing it to a 3d game that runs in an entirely different system you're just setting yourself up for disappointment.

Doesn't that just mean that this game is a dumping grounds for players Runescape has killed?

Seriously, I hope not. The game was originally designed to cater for the oldschool EQ1 crowd (I'm sure anyone who played EQ1 will notice the similarities). But then it started getting publicity and all the RS players seem to be thinking "OMG BROWSER GAME = NEW RUNESCAPE!!!". Suffice to say there is a BIG difference between the EQ playerbase and the RS playerbase, and I have every faith in RS players' abilities in destroying a game's community.

I agree. But the Runescape community hasn't always been as crap as it is now.
Back when the game was first released, the sense of the community was down right awesome. So many nice players, everyone helping everyone else.
Now look where they've gone. The biggest mistake RS made was going from Classic to Runescape 2.
Total shit.

I tried a bard and thought of EQ right away. The only thing that sucks in this game is the movement. I remember I tried a while back and you could press arrow keys plus wasd and walk twice as fast. This small bug made the game 100x more playable. As it is right now it's ****ing painful to change screen. When you attack a mob you appear right next to it, I don't see why we can't click where we want to be.

If they didn't move to rs2 and create Jagex, runescape wouldn't be here today because there wouldn't have been enough money to keep it open.

Default I don't think it is right...

Eternum is not like Runescape, I suppose, other than being a browser game too. I'll still stick with RS, I guess.
