Why do I want to play Runes of Magic?
I've been playing MMORPGs on and off for a reasonably long time (10+ years), and there has never been a genre of games that has really captured my attention like them. Most of it is due to the interaction these games allow with real people, an experience you can't hope to copy with any singleplayer game, no matter how well designed.
Despite my love of the genre, there hasn't been a new game for a long time that has really captured my attention. Runes of Magic however, is kind of like my dream game in a lot of ways. My favorite things about it are:
The World: I'm a big fan of western high fantasy, always have been.
The crafting system: I always felt asian MMOs were a little stronger in this regard and Runes of Magic looks like it will deliver at least that level of crafting depth. I look forward to the player driven economies that good crafting systems make.
Housing: This seems to be an overlooked feature in many new-school MMOs
Dual Classing: If its anything like the system in Guild Wars, it promises a lot of depth over a very simple and easy to understand exterior, which is exactly what I want from a game. If I like an MMO I'll try to get friends to play it and too much apparent complexity can push away new players.
PvP: Like icing on the cake with all the above in mind.
So that, in a few words, is why I want to play RoM. I want to revisit a familiar experience the way I always wanted it to be. I want friends to be able to join me easily. I want to be a part of a game that has captured my imagination. I want to be around for every step of development and contribute to making this a wonderful experience.
