at 16 I had dropped out of Highschool in the 10th grade, I could no longer continue due to grades and lack of credits, I Just wasnt going to finish without spending an extra 2 years. After spending 6 months out of school, one night I thought to myself.. "Being a Drop out isnt going to get me anywhere in the future".
During this time, my DJO(Delinquent Juvenile Officer) I was assigned to, whom is a god send for everything she has put up with from me, enrolled me in this special GED class, its not "Special" instead of random adults and etc, its a controlled environment from other teenagers who are in the "System". I was enrolled april the 25th. After the first few days , they pre tested me, I had scored from 500-600 on most of the subjects. and the lowest was around 318 on the math. So I began there, i studied up on my math, something I have never really been good at. 3 Weeks later, Before the real test, they assigned me to a pretest, to make sure I was ready to take the real test. Amazingly, I scored a 569 in math, I then knew i was ready to take the test. The next day, they picked me up then dropped me off at Harris Stow( one of the testing sites ). After a few hours, I had finally finished the test. I knew I was going to pass, but the answers were different than the pretest and some I did not know, so doubt lurked in my heart. Today, My GED certificate came in the mail; I passed. My parents are proud that I took the step to do something with my life, and they are going to provide the funding for me to goto college soon, at only 16 years of age, because its possible now. I know I wont make as much as a High school graduate, but atleast I have something now. I am sorry for this long post, but Its something I really wanted to share with you guys. I have a future now, something I thought I would never have, I no longer will have hard times sleeping, wondering what I will become, its like a large boulder that has been lifted of my shoulders. Thank you for reading this. Last edited by Denmarkk; 06-19-2009 at 12:27 AM. |

You can get into most community colleges with a GED, and then if you want to transfer to a 4-year college, they won't even bother to look at your high school because they'll just care about your college credits.
