P2P/B2P MMORPGs rely heavily on subscriptions and/or sales to make a profit. If there's no players, there's no customers and thus no money. It's why some P2P MMORPGs may shut down due to a lack of customers (Asheron's Call 2) or switch to a cash shop model (Rose Online, SotNW, GE).

Sadly, I do agree that many games have overpowered cash shop items. There are many people who spend more money on F2P cash shop items in a month than the subscription fee for a P2P game. As long as this happens, it's more profitable to have a cash shop over a monthly subscription fee. Of course, there are some P2P games that also have a cash shop too. Personally, I think that's just greed but I guess at the end of the day, it's just business.
MY POINT EXACTLY!

People are so amazed at seeing F2P games and they don't realize that in the long run they spend more money on cash shop items than they would be paying for a P2P subscription. And the worst thing about it is that if it's p2p then you think to yourself meh costs money I don't want to play it. As for f2p people go ooooohhhh f2p no money I'm in, the sad part is that when these people get addicted to the game and constantly get their *** handed to them by people who pay they put in more money to be stronger than the ones abusing them. This causes an endless cycle of morons paying more and more money for Items that disappear within a weeks period...
