supports are not all powerfull and can be taken down fairly easy if you work together a bit. Despite that, yes i admit they are a bit too strong while the recon is a bit too weak (it has no real benefits, as night vision is virtually pointless in any of the current maps).

The weakness of a support class is that it cannot run and cannot see through cloaks. So when dealing with supports as either a reckon or an assault your best bet is to run and cloak so he loses you on target.

I've had about 4 succesful support takedowns as a recon but sprint cloaking all the way behind him and shooting him in the back of the head.
This of course, only works if there is no assault or whatever around since an assaults motion tracker can see through a cloak.

@stabkiller: CTG is just an addon to standard TDM. You don't NEED to capture the ghost to win. You can win perfectly fine by just seeking out every enemy and shooting him. Capping the ghost is an alternative method to win of course, but is not as easy.
We usually use the ghost primarely as a tactical advantage as to knowing where everyone is, rather than a tool to quick win the match (as there are usually Dropzone campers anyway).

@paramine: the fact that you don't have crosshairs by default is simply to increase the level of tactics (primarely compared to CS(:S) where you can just run and gun). Having no crosshair prevents you just spray'n praying.
Slow turning while aiming, well, you are still human after all. I personally am also still yet to see a person do a 360 turn in less than a second

Yeah it's nigh impossible for a Recon to take down a Support head-to-head, all other things being equal. There have been plenty of instances where Recons have gotten the jump on me I was able to turn, face them, and blow them away before they killed me.

But really, it should be that way. Speed, health and abilities are factors that have been manipulated to balance the game. Recons shouldn't go toe to toe with the other classes.

True, but Recon should be the one with thermal if you ask me. The only have cloak and speed and you can go assault for that and still get the hp and armor bonus. The thing is that Recon is highly underpowered. Most people don't care for the speed boost(Since the game is still pretty fast paced regardless even if it's a tactical shooter you can get gunned down, it's not Arma or something and you can't aim as quickly due to the focus on weapon motion and realism. ).

Recon might not be able to take classes head on but their armanent selection does not really reflect that. I mean if you're trying to say they should just be a support class....doesn't that defeat the purpose of the actual support class?

Okay, I can't say I tested it completely but I noticed most players tend to hop around as Recon making it very easy to see through cloak. The game doesn't encourage you to be very slow and play it like Splinter Cell when you're recon. It's very easy to see recons despite cloak.

You're lucky, I plugged a whole magazine into a support from behind and he still didn't go down.

Yeah, but with the mode being called Capture the Ghost, it's clearly trying to encourage people to play it that way so people do. I think a TDM(That is respawn when you die) would be great. Alot of maps suit this style.


Anyway, I'm just pointing out some problems it in no way means the mod is bad. Every game has problems. This one is a great game but it has some IMO crippling problems if they don't fix it. The community is eventually going to grow around these and it'll cause more whining if they don't change it ASAP.

Thermal is pretty overpowered in my opinion. I dunno if anyone should have it, lol. It allows you to pop out and spot any and all enemies in like a second.

Loving this game to bits, even though I'm sucking quite a bit ;D. But gradually got a hang of the controls and shit.

Okay, probably a stupid question. Do I have to have HL2 to play this or will any source engine game do cause I have portal.
