It's not -THE- only server, but it has the least a mount of hackers/the most amount of players. (Plus, I believe the only one recognized by SEGA at any point in time)

PSU was made after PSOBB.
It's sorta similiar.

Trying to download but get the page not found when clicking the link. Anyone that can post the files on rapidshare or have a link to another place for download?

They have a link to a megaupload link in the downloads section...

and I think PSOBB JP server is still up.
