After looking around the interwebz for a bit, i pretty much learned that the pc you have, the m8120n, probably has a standard ATX 300 or 350w power supply. Sadly, moder videocards require a minimum of 450w to be taken full advantage of. I doubt your powersupply would have pci-e power connectors, sorry. the only other option you would have is to convert the pci-e power port into a different one (called molex), but still would not power due to the lack of a proper power supply.
You have two options at this point, purchase a videocard such as the 4670 that does not require pci-e power connector and use that for a pretty significant performance boost. Or, purchase a whole new power supply to future-proof your computer a bit more and allow for further upgrading and high-end video cards to be installed in your system. ------------------- You shouldn't worry too much about the "PCI-e 2.0 card going into a 1.0 port" problem. Ive built a few pc's/ upgraded parts for family and friends and never experienced such a problem with older models. The card that Snow purchased could have been defective and should have gotten a refund :/ Last edited by Liteninja; 07-05-2009 at 06:11 PM. |

Yeah the Geforce 8600GTS will probably work in your system.
I fyou do a bit more searching, you might be able to find a card that still doesn't need that much mor epower, but is better than the 8600 Like this card http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...368&CatId=3670 Evga 9600GT low power version Last edited by Liteninja; 07-05-2009 at 06:34 PM. |
