Like the title states, I am searching for a game where you can construct a civilization. My only request would be that it does not take near as long to do things as Evony....so long....

I haven't played Evony so I wouldn't know much about it but a new game is in Closed Beta right now in which you can construct a city and manage it...Cities XL. It's modern though.

Well I forget most of them, but the most popular may be:
Tribal Wars
Travian
Damoria
Land of Destiny
Freesky

Then there are other ones like Ikariam, and... Well just google, "PBBG"... Ah - that gives all games, and not the ones I was thinking of. In that case, I recommend the ones above (and gives PsyPets a try too - since it's browser-based)!

As for the 'taking too long' factor, I recommend playing or watching something else in the background (for example, I was watching Star Ocean cutscenes this weekend), or joining a game-related Internet Relay Chat channel, or joining a speed-server

Have you tried FreeCiv??? It's basically a home-brew version of the older Civlization games, but it moves a lot quicker since the max time per each turn is like 60 seconds, and everyone goes at once. It's not an RTS, but you might like it.

Hey also, check this site out...I go here sometimes when I need to find other OSG's to play. http://www.osg1.com It's pretty ridiculous how many games have the word "Lord" in them LOL

Similar to Travian and Evony this game is a time based game where your goal is to explore the universe and take over new planets. So, instead of medieval times it is a more futuristic game with the same general concepts. The benefits of a time based game is that you don't always have to be playing it to be the best because there is time when you're building new stuff and don't need to be present for this process.

GodStoria, (aka "The Bible Online: Heroes"), will get you a civ. building game. It's all Bible-based, and you build up your starter tribe into a city state. Lots of diplomatic and military options, but I haven't gotten to explore much of them yet.

Clash of kingdoms goes pretty quickly. You can build like 4 things at a time in each city.

http://napwar.caplay.com/? Best thing about it is you control the battles like moving troops forward and back or hold position. No instant combat reports like evony (unless you don't get a fight).

there is a game its the best and most advanced game i have ever seen it first game out in 1999 i found it in 2006 It is called mankind not face of mankind just mankind the website is mankind.net It is like eve online it is also like sid meyers civilization except mmo it is currently in my opinion the most advanced game of the strategy class unlike evony based games you can have unlimited planets it is also in 3d you can command multiple units it is far superior to league of legends and has vary good spaceship graphics
