I ran into these guys, they do a few tributes to rock bands every now and then, like this one from Sum 41's "In too deep"

String quartet isn't the same as an orchestral cover btw. and yeah, there are tons of these sorts of things. I remember Dream Theater played some songs off of the String Quartet tribute to them over the PA before their show started, when I went to see them live.

I love the Vitamin String Quartet, they do some pretty good covers.

I'm a fan of this stuff.
