I thought it was an interesting read. I don't play MMOs, so while I had some idea that guys might be playing chicks online, I wouldn't have thought that the majority of 'girls' you encounter online (in a game) would be dudes.

In any case, good read.

It was a little exagerated, as I wrote this with intentions of it being humorous (or at least a little bit). Although, back before WoW that actually was the case. Those statistics have changed since then. :P

I know of a large number of females that play both male and female characters, but don't admit to being female.
(Unless they trust you a lot.)

I myself often play female characters for some basic reasons. I don't identify closely with my in-game avatar, and if I'm going to be staring at a backside for an hour or more, it should be something I find pleasing.

It really torques me when some jerk starts following me around and tries to 'date' me. If I wanted cybersex I'd be in a chat room you stupid oversexed teenager! (I know, far too many of them aren't teenagers.)

Of the female players I know, if they want cybersex, they go to chatrooms. If they want adventure, they go to MMORPGs. They don't like being stalked or asked for dates when playing. That's why they usually say they are males.

As to the free stuff scam, it happens. Although I don't know of one actual female player that does it, all of them, and the males playing female characters, will take free stuff if you offer it. But even then, they don't feel the slightest bit of guilt completely ignoring you. In fact, if you seem to be someone just playing Santa, then they might think favorably of you, but if they suspect you are just trying to get somewhere with them, expect a massive frozen shoulder and a face plant.

In my experience (though not a scientific survey), it seems that about 30% of the players in the MMORPGs I usually play are female, though only about 1 in 6 female players will openly admit so in game.

(edit: I had put down a method that will eventually identify female players, but I realized there is no reason for me to tell. Either you are worth the trust and can figure it out on your own, or else you're probably someone that will abuse it to pick targets to stalk and harass.)

Wow, didn't mean to vent, but even as a male, I'm sick of the harassment towards females, real and otherwise. Getting stalked and harassed in-game is really creepy and disturbing, even though there is no rational reason for it, even though I'm male. I can only imagine how much worse it must be IRL.

I normaly play as a male character seeing as I am male, however in Jade Dynasty I decided that I would play as both genders. I choose that because their seemed to be a lack of female players, which were needed for some specific quests, therefore by playing as a female I would be more likely to find willing partners to do these quests, makeing it beneficial for everyone.

Wow barasawa, you really went on a rant but i do agree with your point, but with that said im still sort one of those guys dont really belive at first. I'm not one of those guys that would harrase said girl. If they go around saying im a chick, could you please give me so and so, then i highly dout it. However if i played with them a while like an hour or so and told me there were female i would belive them. On your other part of your rant where you said crap about cybersex i couldnt agree more with you even i have a few femle char.(extreamly crapy speller srry ), but not to get free shit its all because sexeist gamers or what-ever the reason would set gender classes like female mages(ect). so before i talk to much ill end it with this i can strongly agree with this subject i got.
