Default Blood Secrets in open beta

My game, Blood Secrets, is now entering first open beta at www.bloodsecrets.com after months in alpha (though note that, for reasons below, this currently resolves to the IP; don’t freak out when this happens).

It’s a tile-based browser RPG with a modern setting, featuring humans, vampires and lycanthropes. Unlike some others, it’s not based around vampire v werewolf PvP; in fact, its currently PvE only, and each vampire or lycanthrope group has its own agenda, with that result that it is likely to spend more time acting against its own species rather than against the other species. It’s all free-to-play and at the moment there are no time or number of character restrictions. Later on I may introduce some character-per-day limits or time-outs on certain actions, but there will _never_ be action points.

Screenshots at:
www.bloodsecrets.com/screenshots.html

Features working so far:
Character creation
Overworld
Societies and PvE missions
Character advancement
Integrated level editor

Features yet to come:
Player groups
Co-op play
PvP
Trading and auctions

The site is in the process of domain registrar change. For that reason, you will currently have been transferred to the raw IP address. If it stops working for any reason, try using the raw URL instead: 193.142.245.202/blood_secrets

I’ve spent the last two weeks ironing out bugs, but I’m sure there are plenty more out there, so please keep me informed of anything you find either here or (preferably) on the site’s own forums.

Hope to see those of you into tile-based games over there.

You know you can't finish character creation right? When you enter a name, choose gender, and click Continue, it doesn't do anything. Lol. Fail.

Just checked it again, works fine for me.

Which browser are you using? I'm using Firefox (v3) and it's got no problems.

EDIT: made an alteration that made character creation work in Chrome, which is wasn't before. However, rewriting the game itself to work in Chrome will take a very long time. For the moment, as it says on the front page, ths should be considered Firefox-only.

Well, I've made some alterations to make mostly work in chrome (which, for a while, screwed it up in other ways; executor, if you're watching, first play with a new character should now be re-fixed). Certainly for my version of chrome, it will create characters and seems to run the basics OK, but I haven't fully checked it out so should be considered highly experimental in chrome.

One thing I noticed with my version of chrome was that, after the fix, the javascript did not reload with a normal page reload. I actually had to close chrome and reopen to get it to update the javascript file. Don't know what chrome's criteria for updating javascript actually are, but this might help.

Others have successfully made and started playing with characters, so it does definitely work.

Also, you might want to rethink chrome. I like its sparse interface too, but it eats memory like nothing else:

Ahh okay... I switched back to Firefox...

One thing that didn't work, was character creation because the last section (choose appearance) didn't show up. I was confused as to why it was blank... now I see... there are character images there. Heh.

Interesting game... not really my style, but interesting nonetheless. Good job I suppose.
