The only setting that ever actually affects my performance is view distance.

And there isn't really a huge point in maxing that out just put it a little over halfway and it looks fine.

you wont be able to play even get in the game with 512mb of ram, you need 1gb minimun everything else is fine ...

Well 1gb will only be good when he will lvl, when he will go to main citys or where a lot of ppl are(bg's) he will still lag, but ye 1gb is playable atleast

I haven't played in over a year but 768 mb of RAM worked just fine for me. Overpopulated servers like Alleria would lag a bit, but I think they did for everyone.

512 is fine for azeroth. But when you get into outlands and northrend. Your gonna need a upgrade to 1 gig of ram. Personally. I do really good with my 2 gigs.

Cataclysm will have graphical upgrades somewhat. So id be prepared to uodate the computer a bit.

Well 768 ram would be fine but if you can get it to one gig that would be a lot better I think you should try it!
