Actually, when you think about it there will probably be a noticeable difference since you can apparently swap weapons at any time while in FF11 you could only swap jobs in certain places. I guess it's a double-edged sword since on the one hand a person with all weapons mastered would be able to fill in any role at any point in the fight, but on the other hand it would lead to an extreme lack of individuality and would likely mean that people would be expected to be ready to fulfill roles they don't enjoy playing as. That's probably why, according to Gas's post, they are considering if they limit how many weapons you can master.

With this quote you have unfortunately confirmed yourself to be the troll that others in this thread have stated you were. If you had bothered to read info on the game, you would have learned that there are no levels or experience in the traditional sense, so the fact that there are actual classes to go along with weapon-types instead of completely freeform skills like in games like Mabinogi is indeed news. Of course, they could just mean that 'anyone with a staff/wand is a mage' and there are different builds, or they could mean that each weapon has several distinct skilltrees (or something similar) attached to it which are completely separate from each other, or something else altogether. Regardless of the actual outcome, saying things like "of course an mmorpg will have warrior and mage classes" just proves that either A ) you pay absolutely no attention to the news and are therefore a troll or B ) you oversimplify things far too much and contribute absolutely nothing to the thread.

Elzen looks great. Honestly I am really look forward to this. Hopefully the classes will expand much farther than the basic thing we're seeing now.

The many classes is one of the more unique points of FFXI, I'm sure more classes will be added

I think this game will destroy Aion when it comes out.

FFXIV will have the same type of high fantasy with a lot of Asian aspects, but Square/Enix know how to deliver this the right way to the western gamers since they both have done it since the NES days.

I can't wait!!!

I agree with you, I would hope there are some limitations in place for this system there would need to be at least some form of individuality etc.

First off, I'd like to point out that it's been known for quite some time that Final Fantasy 14 doesn't have a normal leveling system. Secondly, when I say "a warrior and a mage class" I don't literally mean that there is a warrior and a mage class. If you're going to make a straw man argument at least have the courtesy not to insult me over it.

Also, the vast majority of MMOs have at least 1 melee class. Surely you've noticed that. It's an standard for the genre.
